If I'm to discover any more really good finds as the car-boot season draws to a close I think I'll need to get up earlier but as that doesn't appeal at all it seems I'm destined to find not a lot.
This was all I bought on a recent Saturday - 3 books for just 10p each.
I'm specially pleased with the Donna Leon which is an older one the library don't have.
I read the British Library Crime Classic when it was first published a few years ago but will read again and then start a collection to go off to Ziffit sometime. (It's worth 49p at the moment - a 39p profit- not to be sniffed at in these hard times!)
While I was out last Saturday I took lots of the September library books back to Stowmarket Library, as on closer inspection they just didn't appeal, I wasn't in the mood for non-fiction at all. So I've already started the Donna Leon.
October's library van is due next week and thankfully there will be several crime fiction for me to collect as well as some non-fiction that I've been looking forward to, so I hope they live up to expectations.
I love a good mystery book.

When we were living in France, I picked up some stationery with Brambly Hedge characters on it. Loved it. Used it all up. Didn't know until now that there were books! I will have to find one to read...
Delete10p a book is brilliant. We got to hardly any boot sales this year, in fact we haven't since before lockdown. I got 4 books from the big Cancer charity shop yesterday (all their books are 2 for £1) - the lady on the till commented on the fact that I'd just donated a bagful of books...."and now you're buying more!". Well yes, that's the whole idea haha.

DeleteAm very grateful for public libraries. With the amount I read it would cost a fortune if I had to buy books.

DeleteBargain at 10p each. I'm working through a pile of books I seem to have accumulated over the last 18 months. The books in the charity shops around here are expensive, nothing cheaper than £2 and the library reservation fee here has gone up to £1. However, I was very excited to see a new Vera book has been released so I have reserved that.

DeleteThe Brambly Hedge books are a real treat. I bought our daughter the set of 4 when she was little and she was absolutely gutted when a boy at school wrote in one of them.

DeleteThanks for the reminder about Donna Leon. I remember reading some of hers awhile ago but for some reason she got left off my list. Now she is back on the list and my library has a lot of her books.

I am always sad/frustrated when books I've reserved at the library, and waited for ages to receive, turn out to be disappointing--usually I just can't finish them and back they go. Seems to happening a lot lately, so perhaps I need to rethink what I really want to read.

Donna Leon books are crime fiction set in Venice and she writes very well
DeleteOur next Book Group book is George Eliot's Silas Marner - more than enough to keep me going all month.
ReplyDeleteWow what lovely finds! I am - successfully so far - staying away from buying books. I still have so many to read but am slowly working my way through them. I have almost reached my 100 books for the year goal!
