Down a Suffolk Lane on the Last Day of April

Walk the lane with me again, see what's changed.

My walk in the lane on the last day of March is HERE

Plenty of Cow Parsley
and Herb Robert

Clumps of Bluebells
Oh dear, an egg shell (blackbird?) with yolk inside, this might mean it was taken by a Magpie from out of the nest
The Cowslips are just finishing, there were lovely to see all around the lanes near us.

Plenty of green now on the hawthorns, elder and this willow. Oaks are just beginning to leaf up but Ash are way behind......hope that means a good summer.

.
How will things have changed by the end of May?

Oh, just remembered.................. we have swallows at last, we both thought we spotted them at different times week or so ago  but they were definitely a pair sitting on a wire out the back of the house yesterday.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. It's lovely to see your photographs and how thing have changed. We are identifying the flowers on our daily walks but the Herb Robert is a new one for me. Initially everything yellow was a Celandine to Lily but she recognises Cowslips now. They are in full flower up here. X

  4. Yes, everything is growing rapidly, so I hope this cold snap doesn't do too much damage. I love Cow Parsley, and all umbeliferous plants really.

    1. I think it's also called wild geranium, it can be quite invasive and spreads easily in flower gardens

  7. I'm glad you are enjoying life at your new cottage and it looks like the verges have plenty to offer in the way of wild flowers. I have Herb Robert growing all over the place here - there was less when we had the horses as I would always pull it up and give it to Fahly, who loved it (and would always make a bee-line for a big clump of Cow Parsley too!) I have Cow Parsley growing right by the front of the porch, but it is cut and sprayed to destruction by the Councils, so I will let it stay for the moment and put its seed at the front of the paddock, where it will grow safely.

  8. I think the egg is from a hedge sparrow - I seem to remember being told this by my father when we lived in very rural Wales!

  10. We are slowly but surely greening up here. I hope that we have turned a corner and the weather will be more spring like from now on.

    I love your photos.

    God bless.

  11. I love walking around where we live too, Sue, to see what is blooming and what animals are active. I have some Herb of Robert seeds here waiting for me to plant them. Meg:)
