This book was donated to the charity shop this week and I snapped it up because of the illustrations.

Ostara was the pagan festival celebrating Eostre, a Saxon goddess and gives us the words East and Easter. She is often depicted as having a hare's head on a human body.
The Year's at the spring,
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;

The snail's on the thorn;

To welcome spring I have these lovely tulips....................... a draw prize win at small WI.
If you choose the flowers and vase (a horrible metal thing.....ooops controversial! - prefer my jug!) for your draw prize there is a catch, as I now have to take the vase back with flowers for a draw prize at next months meeting!

Ha ha! Sue I chuckled at your comment about having to take it back next month. I won a Truely Ghastly china hand at a parish Blind Quizz, and gave it back to be auctioned again the following year - and was then told that was its fifth or sixth return journey! google won't let me use Google any more .... don't ask me why, I have no clue!)

ReplyDeleteI love tulips but i read recently of a cat who had died after eating a tulip-petal; so as an owner of 2 plant-loving moggies, I can't risk them. Love yours!
ReplyDeleteI have lots of tulips in the garden but not in flower yet, the daffodils are still in flower. It was. Beautiful day yesterday and did a good bit if gardening and had a walk round the village.

Thanks for the detail on the spring equinox, most interesting. My mother was furious with me when as a child I won a raffle prize at the church jumble sale it was a pair of live rabbits in a small hutch. I of course was delighted!!!

ReplyDeleteLove the colour of the tulips, they compete well with the daffodils that are all going over here at the moment ... and I think they win by a mile. At least you will be rid of the horrible vase by next month.
That illustration of the wheel would be lovely in stained glass.

Hopefully Spring will arrive soon, Sue. Love the tulips in the plain jug-it sets them off so well. I thought of manadals when I saw the wheel.

Ah spring finally! Tulips are lovely. I guess I should get some to celebrate spring's arrival. Will you have flowers from your gardens to fill the vase next month?

ReplyDeleteA friend brought me some yellow tulips a couple of weeks ago and they lasted and lasted - it must be a good colour for lasting I think.
