Running Short of Clothes

Thanks for comments about the second vaccination yesterday. The lady said a lot of people have had more side effects after the second. By chance DiL's appointment was cancelled so if I feel grotty today I can stay at "home" and if I don't I can go and visit them anyway.

************

I didn't know most of my clothes were going to be in store for 9+ weeks so didn't bring everything on my journeys around holiday lets.

Luckily the weather has been chilly most of the time so it's been OK for the few pairs of leggings I packed but wearing, washing, wearing, washing has made the elastic go a bit baggy(they were many years old already!)........and guess where my sewing box is? Yep in storage - all except this little sewing kit which happened to get chucked into a bag with lots of other things from my coffee table drawer.

I didn't want to pay full price for sewing things from the Sewing shop in town because I've got enough already so I searched the charity shops and found a reel of black cotton for 50p and the stall on the market had elastic by the metre so I spent 32p there.
I'll turn the waistband over and thread new elastic through and mend some tiny holes that have appeared.

Saved me buying some new leggings.  I like Make Do and Mend!

Back Sometime

  1. Hopefully you'll feel OK after your vaccination. I had mine about 10 days ago with no ill effects and my son had his two days ago and was fine too.

  2. Bargains! Maybe you could buy some "new" clothes from the charity shops too. Don't have to be too good, you can always use them as gardening/decorating clothes when you FINALLY get moved in.πŸ˜‰ xx

    1. Leggings are not something I would find in a charity shop but t-shirts and tops are often charity shopped

    2. Really? That's where virtually all of mine come from. My biggest problem is finding plain dark colored ones. Here, LulaRo was all the rage. You find plenty of those in the thrift store but I cannot abide the bright and gaudy patterns and colors.

    3. I think we wear and wear leggings til they are worn out which is why they are never seen in charity shops!

  4. I guess because I sew a lot I made up a small sewing kit in a make up bag, which I can keep in my kitchen sink kind of backpack. I know it's slightly odd, but it's come in really handy. I guess once a Girl Guide, always a Girl Guide.
It's a pity you can't tell the party dragging their feet they must pay your out of pocket expenses!

  5. You said it Sue - Make do and Mend! And in your case - where there’s a will there’s a way!
    Take care

  7. Hopefully you are feeling alright from your jab.
I agree with other comments about "make do and mend" you can save so many pennies just putting a stitch into something quickly. I use to love darning my husbands socks and will still darn my socks if it is just a small ladder. I wonder how many remember darning there stockings?

    2. I darn walking boot socks but not normal ones as they are thin and darning makes a bit of a lump

  8. I'm having exactly the same problem, only with me it's jeans that are literally wearing out. Luckily I found a pair in the charity shop for £5 and they will take the pressure off the other two pairs that I have lived in for the whole of this and last years lockdowns. I was panicking a bit when the hot weather hit as I only have 4 t-shirts here but thank goodness it went cool enough to go back into my jumpers. Once we move I think all these clothes will be thrown and my stored things once unpacked will feel like new purchases.

I'm so pleased you are having no side-effects from your second jab.

I tried to spy by clothes box in the lock-up when I was there yesterday but it must be buried under everything else

    1. I found a t shirt in a charity shop a couple of weeks ago when it turned warm as I only have 2 with me but as you say it soon went cold again so I'm back to leggings and tunics

  10. We travel regularly between home and caravan. My basic overnight bag contains underwear, the Radio Times and a sewing kit! Everything else is improvised!
