There's a couple of photos of photos that have been on my camera for a year and as it's St George's Day today it's time to let them out into the daylight.
I'm going to share on the local Facebook page too.
The photos show Bacton Scouts and Cub Scouts starting to parade from Milton Road Car Park to Stowmarket church in ? (I'm not sure - possibly 1983?)We are the group wearing the half and half Emerald and Gold scarves.
Colin is one of the Scout leaders and two of the others are also deceased - older than Colin. I'm walking behind "my Cubs" - looks like it was a very poor turnout that Sunday in April all those years ago.
Although parading through the town was fun - with the streets lined with parents and a band playing at the front - the service in Church wasn't my favourite part of Scouting!
I love those photos - a real blast from the past.

It was often so cold is what I remember most and no coats allowed.
DeleteNo parades this year again. Hope next year will be better
Oh what memories Sue, both myself and my husband were Scout/Cub leaders for Ist Cranford Group. Today it is my Son's funeral such a very hard day for my D. DIL, and GC and myself but at least the sun is shining as the day he was born in 1959 it was a very lots summer.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend Sue and everyone.

DeleteMy thoughts are with you today Hazel. xx
DeleteThoughts and prayers with you at this tough time
DeleteLovely to see the old photos. I remember school friends being in the Guides and I was always envious especially when they did trips and camping weeks in the Summer holidays.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know there was such a thing as Brownies or guides as there wasn't a group in my primary school village and no one told me - which is odd really as my Mum was a Cub Scout Leader before she married.
DeleteBut I went to chapel Fellowship of youth which was fun.
I used to love all the various 'walks' and parades we did as Brownies. I would feel so proud to be going along the main road in my uniform, but I was always more self conscious when I was a girl guide and then mortified as a Tawny Owl for the Brownie Pack.
ReplyDeleteThose were the days - how I remember Girl Guides and the St George's Day Parade. Thanks for a reminder Sue.
ReplyDeleteI was the den mother for one of my boys also. We had such a small group - mostly boys that needed babysitting after school so their parents signed them up and the boys really were not that interested in scouting!?!
ReplyDeleteSome church parades were better than others! I didn't enjoy carrying the colour. Being short, I was always scared I'd trip and topple over
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful pictures. It takes me back to when my two boys were in scouts. Those days sure went by fast. Your children must have many happy memories of you and Colin being scout leaders.
ReplyDeleteI salute both of you for your dedication to the children. It's people like you and Colin that can make all the difference in a child's life. x
