On the Washing Line...............

This took me back to childhood........

..........when I was about 4 years old  washing doll's clothes and hanging them out was guaranteed to keep me busy for ages.
These are some Barbie clothes that I found at the boot-sale last Saturday with a doll  for £2, I also brought home a toy cash register for a bargain 50p because apparently playing shops is Youngest Granddaughter's new favourite game.

These toys are all staying here........not sure where, as the single bedroom/toy room is getting full. I thought I'd be able to pass the baby toys on elsewhere soon but with grandchild number 5 arriving in late September or early October I've got to hang onto the baby stuff, the Duplo and the Play People for another few years yet.

Back Tomorrow

  1. Do you have any kind of attic with easy access for storage?
I used to play washing too and then ironed them with my little wooden board and iron. Funny how I don't remember noticing that the creases didn't go!

  2. We have a collection of stuff for the grandchildren, toys, highchair and rocker, which we will need for Molly and George, hopefully next year some things can go, but the stair gate will be there for a couple more years.

  3. I too loved washing dolls clothes. I had a toy iron and ironing board and I remember my grandpa making me a small clothes horse. I loved playing shops too, I'd empty the cupboards of all the tins to stack the shelves, haha.

    1. I've just remembered my toy iron which had a string cord and a sucker so it could be "plugged in" (stuck to the wall)!

  4. I won't be getting any washing dry on the line here today. Another dreadful day, just been raining, blowing a gale and generally horrible.

  5. It is lovely to see that children are still playing with toys that we remember. I remember having a little bed my Dad made me. So happy days.

  6. These new little tills are amazing - they have barcode scanners & card readers in them, and the children know exactly what to do!

  8. You are a nice grandma! I am glad that I have held on to some of the old toys from my kids' days. The blocks and hot wheel cars are always popular with my grandkids. You have done a great job of finding fun toys for them at the boot sales.

    1. My children didn't enjoy going to visit my Mum and Dad very much as there was nothing for them to do there so I decided to be completely different so they love visiting

  9. I do love the thoughtful way in which you carefully gather things together throghout the year Sue. I think it helps that they live fairly near - my granschildren are all grown up and appreciate the money anda my one great grandchild lives in Glasgow so better to send money for her 'Hedgehog Purse' than send something she might already have.

  10. Funny how childhood memories come flashing back with clothes on the line. You definitely find great items and buys at boot sales. Your grandchildren benefit greatly and they must love your toy room. New baby #5 this fall is exciting and coming quickly now.

  11. This takes me back as I remember washing doll clothes as well. It is fun to keep toys at your house for the grandchildren. I always did too and my grandchildren loved to play with "the toys at Grandma's house"!

  13. Ii too loved washing dolls clothes. However, I had a small metal iron that was part of my mothers irons. I used to put it near to the fire and warm it. We would not let our children near an open fire these days, but it was the only warmth we had. I can also remember having a small buffet which I pretended was an over and as they prepared the vegetables for Sunday lunch I had all the scraps, not potato peelings but bits off the sprouts, cabbage etc., these I cut with a knife and put into my set of small pans. Happy days

  14. You did very well at the boot sale. Love hanging out doll clothes, but that is something I haven't done in a very long time.

    God bless.

  15. This post gave me a giggle and some memories.
When my daughter was nearly 3 she was asked what do you want for your birthday ? She replied " A check account " the lady was quite taken aback but said she's got it right !....my daughter meant a Checkout/cash register 😁😁
Her favourite play thing was a plastic wash tub, loaded with dishmop, teatowel, tiny detergent, dishcloth, length of clothes line rope, pegs, peg apron, small facewasher, dolls bath towel, small cake of soap. Hours of fun and imaginative play.

  16. We have always had each of the two grandchildren for a day a week, so the house resembles a PlayCentre! I have invested in stacking plastic boxes - over here the brand is Sistema- which are light enough for the children to pick up and PUT AWAY after themselves. The rule is - only two kinds of toys out at a time. Works perfectly. I did have to get rid of a lot of books so the bottom three shelves of the big bookcase could be storage though. I haven't missed them and someone else has been able to enjoy them so that's perfect.

  17. Little #4 is just 6 weeks old and oldest is 4.5 yo. We have everything from infant to Legos. It is a huge blessing to have them 15 mins away and here often. I will a toy-less house too soon, so soaking this in while I can. We only get to see the Bigs once a year and missed out on so much because of distance. They are all 11 yo and older now.
