The October Library Book Photo

Regarding Friday's post which had over 2,000 page views and lots of comments and may have forced two people to stop following, I'd just like to say that I don't see comments simply disagreeing with mine or other points of view as trolling. Ilona warned me about "Boris" who apparently has been trolling her by commenting on her blog 2 or 3 times a day. I don't know what "Boris" has been saying to Ilona as the comments are not published.  I've been told that  "Boris" is someone who was once called "Traveler" and has changed their name. But I have no idea who "Traveler" is/was anyway. I will delete comments that I consider are rude/nasty/abusive to me or to other people who comment. I also delete those computer generated comments that, for instance, want me to contact a doctor to save me from something, to improve my love life or enlarge my penis!!

So back to normal life with the normal monthly book post...........

These are the books that came home with me from the Mobile Library last week. All are books that I'd requested on line.

From the top............

Leo Walmsley - Love in the Sun ....this isn't a romance (at least, I hope it isn't) It's fiction from 1939 and I've borrowed it thanks to blogland.............Simon at Stuck in a Book mentioned it which made Miki at Farms On My Bookshelf want to read it and when she wrote about it I wanted to read it too.
Laura Dodsworth - A State of Fear. This should give me one version  about the government at the start of the pandemic. Whether is the truth or not is another matter and I may not read it all.
K.J Maitland - A Drowned City - I don't know this author  and not sure where I got the idea from to order it.It's histrical crime fiction.
Alexander McCall Smith - this is the latest in the Botswana Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency series
Lin Anderson - The Killing Tide. Another new to me author and I've already finished it. It's the most recent in a series, not sure I want to read the earlier ones.
Helen Hoover - The Long-Shadowed Forest another book borrowed thanks to Miki - I bought the first of her books about her life in the forest which the library didn't have.
Ann Cleeves - The Heron's Cry. The second in her new series set in North Devon - now on TV

Last months selection? Below were the books collected in September. Of these 4 went back unread for various reasons (mostly tried to read and failed). 2 are still here waiting. The rest are listed on the separate Books Read 2021 page.

Back Tomorrow

    1. Why Oh God? I've not had comments from him yet!
The Donna Leon was last month and has been read and details added to the Books Read 2021. I order one now and again if I'm short of crime reading.

    2. I noticed it was last month but still thought it worthy of mention. It is rare that I have read a book in your heap not usually being of crime persuasion! I only read Donna Leon because of Venice!

  2. Just looked at John Lewis Stempel on Audible, he has written about a dozen books, is 'The Wood' good? Spending my credit wisely ;)

    1. Thelma - His neck of the woods isn't that far from us (Pontrilas way- back of the Black Mountains). I have one of his here to read that a friend sent (Woodston - Biography of an English Farm). Lovely writing about things that interest me.

    2. I've not read The Wood yet but have read several others of his books. Woodston as Jennie mentions is a good read.

  3. Oh, my word. I've been out of the blog loop for a few days and what have I missed? Better go back and see.
As always, the books look great and will make for some great reading, I am sure.

    1. You've not missed much - just people advising me on what comments to publish and being a bit snarky about other commenters - which is something I dislike.

  4. What a lovely pile of books - several I might well choose too. I think I would pass on A State of Fear though - I'll let you read it for me and report back. Ilona has read it I believe.

    1. Yes I already had it on order from the library when Ilona bought a copy. I'm already disagreeing with it and I've only read one chapter!

    1. The series based on the first book - The Long Call starts tonight on TV....really looking forward to seeing how close to the books it is. We've also got a new series of Shetland on the other channel which just started.
Hope you get the programmes in NZ soon

  6. Well I thought it was all fairly civilised. Some of the comments I've read in other places are very hostile and rude. Of course I don't know whether you had to delete any of those. It will be a disaster if we get to the stage where people can't debate and disagree without hostility.
I'm reading The Heron's Cry at the moment.

    1. It was civilised which is why I published all the comments. I was just saying that I won't publish comments that are nasty about other people who comment.

  8. Well said about comments and trolls, ordinary readers have no idea of what true trolls say as we bloggers usually catch the comments and delete them 'forever' so they don't even show up as a deleted comment. I have no problem with people not seeing things from my point of view, but you know me I'll occasionally answer back if I feel someone is being harsh ... either to me or another commenter.

I'm looking forward to the new Ann Cleeves on television, I believe she is now writing this one instead of Shetland, I guess there's only so many murders and crimes on Shetland ... but then Midsomer have never struggled have they ... haha.

    2. I just get fed up with some people being snarky about other peoples comments. They are usually people who wouldn't dream of writing their own blog!

Ann Cleeves is certainly doing well with loyalty payments!

  9. I go by my Mum's motto - if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

I really enjoy your book posts! I hope you let us know how The Heron's Cry by Ann Cleeves is. It's on my want-to-read list

    1. My Mum always said the same as well as "Sticks and Stones will break your bones but nasty words don't hurt you" but I have to disagree with that because words can hurt sometimes.
Have you read The Long Call - thats the first of the new series and on TV starting tonight.

  10. Leo Walmsley! My mother wanted me to have her copies of 3 of his books and I have dutifully kept them during the 4 years since she died. This may be the moment to get down to reading them! I will start with Love in the Sun and, if enjoyed, move on to Three Fevers and So Many Loves. Should you be interested, I'd be happy to send you the latter two when/if I have read them. Always enjoy reading your blog. Vicki from Yorkshire

  15. I've been busy with company these last few days and had no time to peruse blogs. I must go back to see what the hub bub was about. I have a stack of books to read but have had little time to do that either. Winter is coming that will make a difference in my reading time.

  16. What a lovely pile of books for October.

Glad to know that I am not the only one who gets those computer generated posts....The main reason why I switched to a moderated comment box.

    God bless.

  17. I love Donna Leon and Anne Cleeves. I am fine with people disagreeing with me and expressing their opinion. They aren't trolls and I think Boris was very articulate. But I will delete obscene comments, spam or deliberately hurtful ones to me or any of my commenters. Moderation is a good thing!
