Advent Photos 2021. December 1st and The Front Door Decoration

Photos in Advent (sometimes called Blogmas) have been a "thing" on blogs for ages.(During the month of December rather than proper Advent)

Last year I wrote each day about a different Christmas book that I owned - most of those have gone now and in previous years it's just been photos of something connected to Christmas.

But for 2021.......what shall I do this year?

I had a big think, but no brainwave...... so it will just be all sorts of Christmas photos again, sometimes with a bit of history thrown in (people say they enjoy the folklore/special days posts - although they might just be being kind!)

Starting with the front door decor. I've not lived anywhere that people could actually see and walk past the door for ages but this year as I'm in the village and not at the end of a cul-de-sac  I decided to join in.

In this months Parish Magazine a lady was advertising her home made wreaths and other decorations which she makes through the year from donated bits and pieces and sells in December in aid of the local Scout Group. So I went to have a look and came home with two for £5 each - one for the door and another (on the ground on the left) which I'm going to put on Col's Mum and Dad's grave in Bacton where I'm also scattering some more of Col's ashes.(I didn't put all of them around the trees at Clay Cottage because I knew I'd be moving sometime and wanted to take a piece of him with me - which sounds odd - but then I am a bit odd!) The swag is all artificial bits and bobs and under the shelter of the porch so if I'm careful with storage it should be OK for next year too.

After hanging it up I trimmed a bit off the bottom to make it easier for the postman.........can't afford to upset a postman in the run-up to Christmas!

    1. Col wanted a cremation - I would have chosen a burial with somewhere to visit - but I did what he wanted , He didn't tell me what to do with his ashes though

    1. It looks good for second-hand bits and bobs wired together and the Scouts got £10 towards their new scout hut - their old one was condemned!

  4. That wreath is lovely and amazing value. I don't think your odd still having some of Col's ashes, I think I'd have done the same if I'd known I was going to be moving. My Mum's ashes are sat on top of my Dad's wardrobe so he can talk to her when he's lying in bed.x

    1. Keeping some ashes felt odd at the time but I'm glad I did now

  5. that's a very pretty wreath and a good price. I make my own and know that if you put a lot of things in, it can cost more than a fiver! I think these small touches are so lovely for those walking through a town/village.

  7. That's a great wreath - and characteristically thoughtful of you to trim it for the postman. Hoping your first Christmas in your new home is bright and joyful - with many blessings for you and your ever growing family. This is a time of year full of poignant memories of those we love, but also celebration of babies born.

    1. Thought I'd better not cover the letter box - poor postman have enough to do without wading through greenery!

  8. That's a beautiful wreath and very reasonably priced. I've been eyeing up bits of greenery on my walks, although I have some useful bits about the garden and paddocks too.

I always enjoy your churches and folk lore posts.

  11. Lovely door deco Sue, and lovely thought about the ashes. Sad you no longer have your Col with you for Christmas but enjoy the new generation doubly for him and relive the happy memories

  12. What a gorgeous door wreath at such a good price. We had to cut back our Holly trees this year at the cottage and the branches were laden with berries but they wouldn't last until Christmas - such a shame.

  17. The swag is lovely, just the sort of thing I'd go for. I don't think it's odd at all to save some of Col's ashes to move with you. I have some of Mum's in the pot of a magnolia - although it's not actually doing very well, she must be killing it off!
