Before I forget.......must apologise again to people whose comments have gone into spam and I've forgotten to look, they have now been realeased. Strange thing is they were by people who often comment without any problem so why on earth does Blogger suddenly decide they are spam?! (thats a question that probably doesn't have an answer!)
Anyway....................
Cutting the grass out the front with the blade quite low to try and chop off some of the weeds in one patch and the mower coughed and ground to a halt. It's a battery mower so of course I assumed the battery had run out and brought it in to charge. But even fully charged it still wouldn't start. It's an early Gtech, one of the first mowers to use a rechargeable battery and about 5 years old now.
I tipped it over and examined all there is to examine but there's nothing to see really and pondered on what to do next.................
Brother in Law mends mowers for many people although he moans a lot about doing it and anyway being a battery one it's completely different to the ones with engines that he sorts out.
I looked online to see how much a new battery powered mower is............Good Grief!! it would have to be a cheap electric with cable. I read reviews..................they all seemed to be people moaning about poor quality.
I looked at my mower again and wondered what the little green peg-like thing was that slots into the mower.
I pulled it up and there was a wire attached inside. I clipped it back into it's slot again and tried the starter and YIPPEE off the mower went! Obviously some sort of safety cut-off for when the mower is struggling too hard.
Grass cut in 10 minutes............Phew!
Back Tomorrow
Sue.............(loving this heat!)
Thank goodness for that! You were in my spam the the other day!
ReplyDeleteThe spam thing is really odd, there's loads of proper spam in there and then comments from people who normally appear without trouble
DeleteI can comment anonymously but if I select my Google account the comment box disappears!
DeleteSo glad you mended the mower.

Managing (and making) Blogger comments seems a real struggle lately
ReplyDeleteI've not had any problems making comments but having to fish them out of spam is so odd
DeletePhew, thank goodness for that. I have a battery one and it's been a treasure.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that spam was even a thing. So why do obviously spammy messages still get through, I wonder?
I'd better go and check mine, I guess.
xx
Love my mower as it's so light and easy to use. To replace with the same now is over £500!
DeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning the spam issue - I had loads including one from you. I'll be checking the spam folder as a matter of routine from now on. xx
DeleteI also said I'd look more often but then forgot - DUH!
DeleteWhat a relief it wasn't bust for good and your lawn mowing is a speedy affair. We have an electric one, which has to be lifted up three foot over the wall to get on the first bit of lawn. We have strange land levels here! Mowing the lawn takes me 3 hours. I have bribed middle daughter G to come and do it for me again today. I scarcely dare be outside with the V. High pollen levels, despite strong anti-histamines.
ReplyDeleteI've made mowing round the back more complicated with the veg beds and raspberry bed but still only takes a short time - so different to Clay cottage
DeleteThe remote for our TV/box has a similar solution - it stops if I'm too fast searching for something. If I take the batteries out and wait ten minutes it does a re-set.
ReplyDelete(I've been having to use an internet HotSpot for the last few days, and find that more comment boxes are open to me. Whether that will still be the case when our phone line is restored, who knows! If it reverts, then I suspect the problem is to do with security levels on our devices.)
My TV with freesat doesn't like me changing channels too fast either. It goes back to where it was to start with and I have to begin again
DeleteWell done, I would not know where to start looking for a fault.
ReplyDeleteThere's so little to go wrong on a battery mower that I was most puzzled, lucky I fiddled with the little green peg thing!
DeleteLike Joy, I check Spam as a matter of course every day. One of Weaver's talking about the weather was in there a couple of days ago! I released it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done. I didn't really take on board that there was such a thing, to be quite honest. However, now I do and I will definitely be checking - it's rather embarrassing really.
Deletexx
Well done on checking regularly. That was my good intention
DeleteIt's so easy. Once I have the number in my head that appears against Spam I know whether it has stayed the same (real Spam ones left by me too idle to delete) or increased and then I take a look to see if it is one of my "real" commenters. If the number has stayed the same then no need to go any further. It takes a matter of seconds.
DeleteGood for you for figuring it out!! to buy anything now is horrid the prices are crazy they are cheaply made.
ReplyDeleteCathy
It helps that you are handy and it's great that you got it working again. Well done!
ReplyDeleteWell done! It pays to investigate before paying for a new item!
ReplyDeleteYour ability to solve mechanical things (and the help of your brother in law are two things which never cease to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteYou found the problem and fixed the mower - fantastic! Everything is so expensive right now and fixing the mower entirely yourself, avoiding a purchase, is a good bonus. Sometimes YouTube has good "how to" videos. I love them.
ReplyDeleteMy husband just purchased a new battery for our mower. In fact it takes two batteries in total. They last about 5 years and this is his 2nd set of batteries. So you were about due. He can always tell when the batteries are starting to "go" as they don't hold a charge as long and the mower cuts less & less lawn before needing to be recharged. I'm surprised yours just konked out and you didn't notice it waning. ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to use your big girl pants to sort out the problem...I have had to use several of hubby's tools today in order to sort a few things out. I just don't have the strength of a man...so a rusty bolt and nut issue when trying to fix a leg onto my now sewing table which was made worse by me initially using a thumbscrew off another of the legs which then also became stuck. I mean a spanner and vice!! x
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! You are a mower mechanic and didn't know it!
ReplyDeleteBlogger does really strange things every so often. Glad you got the problem sorted.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Good job sorting out the mower!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the 'inner mechanic'. You clearly have one.
ReplyDeleteWell done on sorting out the problem, the new Gtechs are very expensive aren't they.
ReplyDeleteYes, Blogger commenting is a real pain at the moment, a lot of comments I leave on people's blogs are getting linked back to a deleted blog from many years ago and telling people that my blog has been removed. That particular problem is a mix of Blogger and Google having a hissy fit. I am also trying to remember to check my Spam folder at least every few days as I keep finding my regular commenters comments in there!
