Suffolk Show Visit (Part Two)

More Photos from the 31st May and my day out at The Suffolk Show. It's impossible to watch everything that happens in the Grand Ring and look around the whole showground and I kept going backwards and forwards.

I watched these guys jumping the ramps and doing tricks high up in the air .......

But missed most of the horse and carriage parades until they were going round the ring on their way out

Then and Now on the St John's Ambulance Stand

and into the Flower Show Marquee

The St Elizabeth Hospice Fundraiser this year is The Big Hoot. These owls have been sponsored by organisations or people and painted by professional artists and later in the year will be all round Ipswich for people to spot. At the end of the summer they will be auctioned off

Back to the Grand Ring to catch some of the Scurry racing, They have to go between cones that have a tennis ball on top, if the ball gets knocked down it's a time penalty. It's fast and furious!
In the Bees and Honey marquee - How on earth do the judges work out whats best between all the different sorts of honey?
Line Dancers of all ages doing a display
By the time I'd watched all these things and walked around most of the showground my back was aching, so I called it a day and headed out.

The most worrying thing about the Suffolk Show is remembering where in the gi-normous car parks my car is parked!! Luckily they have some numbered flags at the end of some of the rows

My treasures from the show ...........I bought a new waxed hat - which I was very grateful for in the rain. I had one of these waterproof hats at the smallholding but somewhere in the moves it vanished. Also picked up a free bag from The Scottish Power stand.

It was a sign of the times that there were lots of Stands missing. Organisations that have been represented at the Show forever like the East Anglian Daily Times, The East of England Co-op and even the WI didn't have a stand of their own this year.

Already looking forward to next year.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. That looks a great day out. We always used to go to the New Forest Show when I was living in Hampshire, Wiltshire and then Dorset. Similar events there in the main ring, and always plenty to see in the show tents of judged things and around the stands. Carmarthen used to have a show but that was stopped not long after we arrived in Wales. But of course we have the amazing Royal Welsh Show each July - THE social event, especially on Wednesday which is Welsh Cob Day and Very Important. There's also the Three Counties Show at Malvern which we're within reach of here.

    1. I bought an earlybird ticket way back last year and being over 60 is another discount but even then it was nearly £20 although thank goodness they dropped the car park charge this year and under 15's are free so makes it better for families.

  2. P.S. Just checked ticket prices for Royal Welsh and it's £30 a head! Don't think I'll be going.

    1. Wow, that's gone up a bit since we last went!! It's a great day out but all the traffic and crowds make it a very tiring one.

  3. It's so hard to get round and try to see as much as you can isn't it and as you say quite exhausting. I don't think I could manage to taste so many honeys and not lose all sense of perspective, the judges do a great job.

    I love that old ambulance!!

    1. I had no idea there were so many bee keepers in Suffolk and so much honey to judge!

    1. I think I got round most of the showground. The tent full of owls was quite a sight. My photo is less than half and some were bigger too.

  5. Another lot of wonderful photos. A pity about the WI tent etc, I use to love there afternoon teas and the cake tent. I shall have to try to get back for another year.

    1. There was hardly anywhere to sit down with a cuppa except for buying from one of the trade trailers. The WI and Co-op used to do coffee and cakes etc - that was my only disappointment

  6. I enjoyed your photos and descriptions of all of the different activities available at your Fair. Looks like a busy, happy weekend for you! Thanks for sharing it!

  7. This fair is bigger and more varied in activities and events than anything we have. You did very well to see everything and I loved your photos. I'd love a show like this; the honey exhibit surprised me with more honey than I imagined existed, the motor bikes, plants, horses, sheep.... So much to see and all very interesting. Thank you for sharing.

  9. Our local 'Show' has been cancelled here in southern Australia for 3 years, hoping it's back later this year in our spring. It looks just like yours and has been going for well over a century, which is a long time here. We have the CWA,which is the Country Women's Association and I do hope that their famous tent with tea and scones is back!

  10. My goodness there was so much to see. It is too bad that more of the usual booths were not there. Perhaps next year.

    God bless.
