Someone Liked the Same Books As Me.

(Or should that be "as I". I got told off by a pedantic Roderick (whoever He is) last week when I inadvertently missed an apostrophe - one apostrophe good grief!)

Anyway.............  These were a surprise find at the Wednesday Car-boot sale. They were (yet again) in the boxes of house clearance stuff and only £3 for the lot.

I said to the man selling that they must have cleared a house belonging to someone who had the same taste in books that I do.

Two are the lovely Little Toller Books books and perhaps if I look on Ziffit they will all be worth more than the 50p each I paid for them, although I'd better read them first as I've not read any of them before.

I started straight away on the one by Simon Barnes which is about his home close to one of the Norfolk Broads and is a really good read.

Back Tomorrow

  1. Commenting on blogs seems so difficult at the moment for lots of people. I'm grateful for those who make the effort to say positive things, and will overlook the odd typo. You have a great bargain book buy there. Well done

    1. My best ever book find for years! I just kept fishing them out of the box in great excitement!

  2. If someone commented on my blog like that, I'd tell them where to go! What a muffin they must be if that's the best they can achieve in a day!! In the great scheme of things, does an apostophe really matter?!

What a GREAT haul of books. You and I have very similar tastes and they'd have all come home with me too. They look brand new/read once. Well done.

    1. He used to comment whenever I had a coffee and cake at an event but had been quiet lately!
Thought I might have read the Richard Mabey as I've read several of his but not this one

  3. That was a lucky find. I hope you enjoy them.

  4. Typos are so easily done and sometimes the PC has it's own ideas so I would never comment on spelling/grammar on anyone's blog. Anyway it's their blog so being told off is a bit rich.

    1. I told him we don't bother with apostrophes in Suffolk!

  5. That was lucky. I'm a fan of Sara Maitland's writing - I'd love to know what you think of this one.

    1. I had to look her up - seems she writes mainly about Theology . I'll let you know what this is like

    2. Yes, and solitude. She lives in the most amazing, remote place, totally by choice.

  6. What a bargain!
Google is now letting me comment on your blog, which is good news.

    1. When I go on your blog I get all sorts of warnings saying I should comment somehow else as the way I comment (through Facebook?) isn't protected! Glad Google is letting you in.

  7. Blogger is really playing up these days in so many ways and the most recent headache is definitely commenting.

I noticed your charming member of the 'grammar police' the other day ... perhaps we should all use extra apos'trophe's just for Roderick ;-)

I love your 'new' books, they all look to be in brilliant condition too! A heads up for you, I put some of the books I wanted to sell into Ziffit and the site started to play up so I downloaded another book selling app WeBuyBooks and put the same books into there ... and ended up getting over £10 more for the same amount of books and DVDs. It all works in exactly the same way too, with a pick-up from home if you want it. Might be worth trying out.

    1. The apostrophe comment mad a change from observing how often I have coffee and cake while at various events which is what he used to do!
I've used Ziffit and Music magpie but not We buy Books, I shall check them out.

  8. What a brilliant haul, I never seem to be able to catch nature books in charity shops. I think people who buy them generally hang on to them.

  9. It's nice being able to comment Sue - in my case I only use anonymous because google seems to want me to go through hoops to sign in.
That bundle of countryside books would be right up my street too.
I did recently read 'The Other Bennett Sister ' by Janice Hadlow - loved it

I used to read a lot of historical fiction but it's not my choice nowadays for some reason

  12. All those books are like discovering a treasure chest. All seem in new condition. I once knew someone that took great pleasure in correcting pronunciation when someone mispronounced a word in a group setting. He was a bit of a bore and show-off. Mr. Apostrophe, "Do you really want to come across like that?"

  13. Oh good grief...I would have told good ole Roderic to f*ck off... but then again, I always believe in getting straight to the point & saying what I truly feel. :-) Don't you just **love** a good book find!? Way to go!! ~Andrea xoxo

  14. I am real being the author of four well received books - but whatever. Sloppy misuse, such as "it's," of the English language causes me much pain. Roderick

    1. The thing is, if there was something missed, it was accidental as Sue's written English is very, very good. Anyone who reads her regularly knows that.
And she doesn't have proof readers and all the other support structure that surrounds an author.
Know what you mean about the ouch thing though! :-) xx

    God bless.

  16. I found a copy of the Marsh book on Abe's Books UK. Interested as the salt marshes are a particular interest of mine. Good price on the book and actually reasonable to mail it---but then I remembered my current frugal mindset and have not clicked that final OK.

  17. What a great book bundle. Giving second life to otherwise lost words.
As for the grammar pedants - the most zealous among them invariably know little of writing and what it is that matters.

    1. Not sure why my comment above is publishing as anonymous rather than views from the Bikeshed. Perhaps because I’m not in the UK this week?
