A House Becomes a Home....................

...........................when the shelves are fixed up and spice jars back on display.

The kitchen was grubby pale yellow now it's nice and clean Ivory Lace, it may not be up to professional standard of  painting but it looks much better. I still have the boiler room door to paint and I'm not good at doors!Thank goodness the rest of the doors are solid oak and the windows are replacement double glazed plastic as I'm even worse at windows.

  1. That is lovely, Sue. You can't beat a coat of fresh paint for making something look better.

  2. Lovely job! It does make the kitchen look very much like your home. Hate doing doors and windows too. Catriona

  5. Fresh paint in the color of one's choice is a very satisfying way of renovating a space. I always stand on the threshold of a newly painted room and admire.

  7. I find that very small rollers (with fine textured foam) make painting doors with gloss paint easier & much quicker than using brushes which tend to cause drips.

    1. Thank you, I've not got a foam roller, just a sort of fluffy one but it's definitely worth a go - I'll get one when I'm next out

    2. If your gloss paint is water soluble it will wash out of the foam roller at the end of the job, but between coats keep the roller soft in a well sealed plastic bag (or tightly wrapped foil). If the paint is the type that can only be removed with white spirit, store the roller in a bag until the job is done & then you might want to dispose of the foam part rather than try to wash it in spirit (often the better quality small rollers come with several spare foam bits).
Good luck with the rest of your painting - it is very satisfying to turn a shabby room into a fresh one.

  8. Looking really good, love the colour. My nephew swears by taking the door and painting it on the floor. my painting is appalling lucky that my doors are solid. x

  9. I hope you are making a list of all you have achieved lately!
Many people would find what you've done enough to cope with alone never mind the emotional challenges you are both having to deal with.
Allow yourselves to curl up in the sun(!) as often as you need them.
The kitchen shelves look very reassuring. Sue

    1. I need to find that list I wrote not long after we moved in and tick off all the things I've done.

  10. Hope you're feeling better in yourself Sue. Your walk up the lane looks lovely, is Col able to walk with you? We really need to do some painting in our house but I can't be faffed with the mess at the moment. xx

I've climbed out of my black hole and getting on with things again!

  11. Hope Col soon regains some of his strength Sue. I admire the way you are trying to get on with things - I am doing the same and it is the only way. Love to both.

  12. I'm hopeless at gloss painting, I'm not allowed to even start the smallest area, but walls I'm great at.
