On Friday we went and picked more strawberries from Col's brother's garden. Brought them home and started something for Christmas presents for the two hampers.
Strawberry Vodka Liqueur. A small bottle of vodka had moved house with us twice........ I think I bought it when I thought a vodka drinker was coming at Christmas the year before we moved............so it was about time it was used. I filled a jar with good strawberries added a third of a jar of castor sugar and the vodka right to the top. Now I need 2 small bottles to decant into just before Christmas.
They won't get much each but it makes an extra little gift, which reminds me - I must look out at car-boot sales for another basket of some sort for the other hamper.
We ate strawberries and ice cream for dinner and kept the best for sharing with weekend visitors.
Apologies for all those mentions of 25th December, I've whispered them in tiny print!
Back Soon
Sue
oh that sounds yummy, may give that a go. x
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of making up hampers for Christmas Sue - each year when you mention them I think ' I must do that '. Never get round to it,but so often during the year I see little things which would make nice additions.
ReplyDeleteNow is the time to start, it's June already!
DeleteI love the look of strawberries and the smell of them but I just can't eat them. I think it must be the texture of them that puts me off.
ReplyDeleteThey do look lovely in the jar with the vodka-x-
I've just had strawberries on my breakfast cereal, made a nice change from a banana.
ReplyDeleteI had noticed the whispers. We're nearly half way through the year, so in a couple of weeks you'll be able to shout it out without feeling guilty about reminding us. That time of year can be so expensive so early preparation is the key. I've already got a few stocking fillers, but we're moving to Devon soon so I can let myself go and get more done for the big day. YAY, yay and more yay, I love C ....... s.
ReplyDeleteJoan (Wales),
Wales to Devon - two favourite parts of the country!
DeleteA few years ago I made cherry vodka and made a pie with the cherries after bottling the vodka. Hubby said it was the best he'd ever had but wouldn't like to take a breathalyser after it!
ReplyDeleteThe recipe for the liqueur said " The strawberries will have lost their colour but can still be eaten" I thought they would probably be extremely potent after 5 months in vodka!
DeleteSounds lovely, I have made it in the past, never to early to mention Christmas, it saves time and money to be prepared.
ReplyDeletestrawberry vodka sounds gorgeous. a taste of summer in the depths of Winter.
ReplyDeleteYour greenhouse is looking fantastic. I've just been scoffing peas straight from the pod with Violet!
The liqueur sounds delicious. Can't believe how many strawberries you've got from Col's brother's garden especially as you've already said you've had some that have gone in the freezer. Still waiting for the pick your own to announce theirs are ready. xx
ReplyDeleteThey've now finished here, I hope the PYO place have a later variety so you get some soon
DeleteDelish at your house for C******** Strawberry vodka, very nice!
ReplyDeleteI'll be giving all away as neither of us drink spirits or much other alcohol due to blinkin' tablets!
DeleteNot sure I could do strawberry vodka now ~ too many memories of too much strawberry schnapps in my younger days! I must be getting old! lol
ReplyDeleteI've been dealing with our glut of strawberries today. If I get more that I know we can't eat I'll give the vodka a whirl.
ReplyDeleteStrawberry vodka sounds very good.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I think you must be the first blog I have read to mention C******** ..... naughty lady. But so well prepared ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's never too early for Christmas gift buying or making. I need to make the time to make jam sometime this summer. I like strawberry jam but never have the time to do it as it's such a short season.
