Where I Am Now?

As mentioned last week I'm now staying in a caravan on a Leisure and Retail Village Complex at Stonham Barns. The caravan is................just a caravan........very beige and plasticy. The double bed is squeezed into a Very Small bedroom which involves siddling in and out carefully to avoid stubbing toes on the frame but the heating is warm - thank goodness - as there have been some minus temperatures in the mornings and frost on the car windscreen.

I'm just across the road from the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Nature Centre............. do you know what some owls do at night?..they hoot............a lot!

Also on site are 2 fishing lakes, surrounded by wooden holiday lodges, a campsite, a children's indoor play centre (not allowed to open yet), A Wedding Barn (where they hold the Potato Day each February) a golf complex with everything except an 18 hole course, a showground (where we used to hold the Suffolk Smallholders Show) The Teapot Pottery, several shop units including the village Post Office, a small theatre,  a garden centre, a hot tub show-room........brrrrr! and several other attractions including a hairdresser's where I shall get a much needed hair cut next week.

And all this above began way back in the very early 80s with a company who started to make and sell their own jams from fruit grown on the site........just a small farm shop then it has grown and grown. The orchards have long gone and all through the last 40 years the local people have moaned about how the place has grown and taken over so much land that was once farm land although everyone was glad when the Post Office moved there.

But the thing here that I like best of all is it's the site of the car-boot sale that I used to visit every Sunday from the cottage. Then I was 4 miles away, when I move to the bungalow it will be 4½ miles but when boot-sales start again  this Sunday  I shall be just a few minutes walk away....what a treat!.

Back Soon

  1. I often daydream of what the people who lived in our cottage did, ate, wore etc. I think my daydreaming may be a little over romantacised. x

  2. You can pretend you are on holiday at this place more than at the previous one.

  6. I wish they do a car boot here they have a big car park where the playing fields and pavilion are lots of room there must be a reason. Enjoy your stay in the caravan.

  8. It sounds like a lovely place to be staying. I love to hear the hooting of owls, it's another thing I miss from our last home. I'm envious of the car boot sale too right on the doorstep! No sign of any in our area starting up but I notice that a couple of charity shops have reopened in the village. Enjoy your browse this weekend 😁

  10. Although owls hooting sound nice and romantic for a few minutes I should imagine when it goes on for hours and hours it can get a bit wearing.

Watch you don't buy too much from the car boot sales or you'll be needing a couple of trips to move you from the caravan to your new house ... not that that would be too much of a problem really it's all in the same area isn't it?

Any chance of some photos of the caravan ... I'm having van withdrawal symptoms recently.

  11. oh, you just brought back wonderful memories of sleeping in a quaint little guest house by the side of a lake in N. Wales, with the window open to the hills and listening to the owls as they lulled me to restful sleep.

  13. Enjoy the car boot sale. The novelty of actually going to one after so long is likely to make it a fun day. Hope the weather cooperates.

  15. That sounds like quite the site, making up for the small quarters in the caravan. I hope you can settle soon. And thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday (or today) -- just lovely to see you there!

  19. I think it is wonderful when businesses do well and grow. At least it is a new place to explore, sorry but I did laugh about the owls! I can just imagine.

  20. I smiled when I read about the owls. Our resident mourning doves are back so I can kind of understand what you are saying about the hooting.

You are going to enjoy being that close to the boot sale.

    God bless.

  21. Although your lodging at the moment is cramped there seem to be some definite perks to your location! I’m not sure the hooty owls is a blessing though but it could be worse. We once had a camper in a camp ground in the woods with screech owls in residence! 🌸

  22. You are definitely a glass half full lady! I hope you get used to the owls at night (we have one in the woods here but a whole sanctuary full must be noisy!) Hope your new home is soon ready to move in and that in the meantime you enjoy your new location :)

  24. This sounds so fun! Except maybe the caravan aspect, glad it is warm inside at least, and hopefully was clean when you got there. Having the flea market right there--how amazing, how fun!
