26th

What on earth to write about today?

I'll have to do one of those "looking back at this day in previous years" post

Which didn't start well because when I looked for 26th November 2020 last year I found I'd just accepted the offer for the house and took a few days of blogging to start sorting things out and packing.

In 2019 my 26th November post was photos of a walk across the field near the cottage and around a small lane and back along the road

In 2018 my post was about some so called Black Friday Shopping   that I'd done in Ipswich the week before.
"From Charity shops I found 3 tops for a total of  £7

                                         Green crepe paper for  £0.25p
Tree Decorations for total of    £2.50
Xmas Present for Jacob  for   £3
Another Christmas book for the grandchildren   £0.49p
From Poundland Biscuits  for Christmas Day      £1
                                                 Gold Spray           £1
                                            Party Poppers            £1
Aldi  for Xmas  dessert cocoa coated...Nuts       £1.99

And finally, because I'm going to make an effort and put up a Christmas tree this year I got some new  lights for £9.99.

I didn't see anyone fighting over reduced stuff, the town looked no busier than usual for a Friday morning. I didn't bother with any of the big department stores and went home via the packaging place for the red crepe paper (couldn't find any in town) and florists tape......................I have a craft project in mind that I happened upon on a Kirstie Allsop Handmade Christmas Programme.

If it works you'll see it here, if it fails you won't!"

(The poinsettia party poppers were a fail - The party poppers are still in the Christmas draw!)

On November 26th 2017 my post was about a trip to Felixstowe the week before. Colin was just about to go into hospital for the stem cell transplant and was feeling not to bad.

"We went down to the beach hut on Friday to check and oil the padlocks and to bring home anything that might get damp - like the coffee in a jar.
It was a beautiful morning, the sea was flat calm

The next time we went was the following spring, Colin wasn't well, the stem-cell transplant didn't seem to be working and we sold the beach hut to someone who had left a note in the door.

I didn't write a post on 26th November 2016

In 2015 I was repeating the ideas for 30 ways to a £1 and on the 26th it was Making your own bread

Back to 26th  November 2014 when I was writing Christmas cards early (need to do that this year really!)

Finally 2013 and November was the month when I did 30 ways to save £1 for the first time so the post was again about making bread.

Blimey what a extremely boring day 26th November has often been!

Today on the 26th I'm off to the pharmacy/chemist shop in Eye for my booster vaccine. A very strange place to get done - it's a very small shop.

Hopefully it will be like the previous two = with no side effects.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. Not poring at all, I think. Just normal with some mixed emotions!
Hoping the booster goes well and you have minimal or no side effects. Have the pain killers to hand, just in case! :-)

    1. Not exciting though, although some might say that boring is more peaceful!

  2. That's a lot of years to look back on! Colin looks like he really enjoyed the day - lovely sunshine in November. I always used to fancy the idea of having a beach hut, now I'm very happy to have a caravan! Hope you and I both have no side effects from the jab....even if we do, it's still better than having covid.

    1. The price of beach huts in Felixstowe has trebled since we sold ours - but so has the ground rent! It was good while we were in town.
2 hours after jab - a different one to the first two - OK so far

  3. Do take some paracetamol straight after your jab and keep taking it for 24 hours. I was too blasé after my booster and didn’t bother. I paid the price with a feverish night and felt as if I had been kicked down the stairs the next day! A very bad 24 hours…

    1. My arm ached like mad after my jab in Tuesday, but my OH had similar symptoms to Joanne, and spent Wednesday feeling truly dreadful.

  5. It's really interesting that you can look back to see what you have done, I very often think I wish I had started a diary all those years ago.i did write when my Colin died for a lot of months but never kept it up. I did have a WI friend who did a diary every day and it must gave been interesting for her family.
That photo of your Colin is lovely and can I imagine you had some good times with the beach hut.

    1. I prefer photos of him before the time when he was ill. This one just makes me feel sad that he was gone just 6 months later

  6. Dear Sue - your posts are noever boring - they put me to shame with your wonderful devotion to your grandchildren and your care at starting filling up your Christmas drawer for them in January every year.
What a lovely photograph of Colin - you must treasure it.

    1. Some of November posts are a bit dull - like the month!. Yes a good photo but knowing he was ill at the time makes me sad

  7. It wasn't boring as I was going back in time with you, although I don't remember that photo of Colin soaking up the sun.

The back-end of November is always busy for us as it is my daughter's birthday, our wedding anniversary and then my eldest grand-daughter's birthday. So I don't even think about Christmas until the 1st December apart from making a few cards during the year.

    1. It seems to be a bit of a empty time for blogging, but always interesting to look back

  8. I love looking back. The picture of your Colin touched my heart.

I'm not doing any black Friday stuff. (I'm a little surprised to know that you have a black Friday over there.) Most of my Christmas shopping is done. I need a few little things for under the tree for the kids, but for the most part, I'm set!

    1. We didn't really want a black Friday here! especially as it's linked to Thanksgiving which we don't have. But it seems to have snuck in anyway!

  9. What a lovely photo from the past of your husband enjoying the sun on his face beside the sea. I don't think there is anything to beat sitting feeling the sun on your face, smelling the air, and hearing the sound of waves. We do have black Friday here - but as most places have been having early black Friday sales for days its not much of an event. I always enjoy looking back and being reminded of things.

    1. No sun here today - sadly - and windy weather forecast. Looking back too much makes me sad so just a quick glance is best

  10. I plan to continue popping into resale shops to look for Christmas gifts this year. I am looking forward to finding unusual gifts for low prices!! :)
From your past posts, it sounds as if you have always been good at saving money!! Well done!

  11. I had my booster on Saturday and didn't feel very well on Sunday, felt achy and tired and my arm was very sore. I took some Lemsips through the day and felt fine on Monday. Hope you are ok.

  12. There's a lot to be said for "boring", Sue. I never realized that until one bright shiny day in May, 2012, when I watched my youngest daughter go up in a helicopter headed for Chicago. She had a brain hemorrhage and we weren't sure she was going to be alive when the chopper touched down in another state. Only then did I realize what a blessing that "boring days" really are. Good luck with your booster. ~Andrea xoxoxo

  13. It is very interesting to look back in time. Each year is a bit different as our lives change. Black Friday was not busy in the US. No long lines to enter stores at opening. It's said most are shopping online and/or early because of all the warnings on shortages. I bought my live 8 foot tree on Wednesday and have it sitting in a large bucket of water on my patio. Next week it will come inside and I'll decorate. I do love Christmas.

    God bless.

  15. Oh Sue, I'm feeling sad for you again with the photo of Colin - he was gone too soon, wasn't he. This time of the year for me is "Blimey, where's November gone - I'll never be ready for Christmas!" and so I start making lists. Making lists doesn't get things done, but it does make me feel less out of control.

  16. Nice photo of Colin. He looks as though he is savouring the moment.

I can't believe it's been a year already since you accepted the offer on the house. Do you miss it at all? Seems like you are properly settling in your new place now though and the village.
