Aldi Emmental and Asparagus Parcels.
Not tried these before and in theory they should be good, what's not to like about puff pastry, asparagus, sweet potato and spinach in a cheese sauce?
But the texture of the inside was just so weird, sort of jelly-like - not like the photo at all. Guess I'll have to eat the second one, at 90p each I can't afford to waste it, but I'm not looking forward to it.
Certainly wouldn't buy them again because apart from being weird they also have lots of odd ingredients which I found after getting home and putting my specs on!

Pity....they look and sound so nice too! Perhaps you could sprinkle a bit of grated cheese and some paprika on top to help with the taste? Although it won't do much for the weird insides!
ReplyDeleteIt annoys me a bit when the product doesn't live up to its picture, but I guess we have to try new things because sometimes we might like it!
ReplyDeleteI find these 'stuffed' pastries peculiar as well. The ingredients must reflect the need to keep the insides in!
ReplyDeleteIt was a very odd texture inside
DeleteThat is disappointing. They look so delicious on the picture. Xx
ReplyDeleteAww, that's a shame. The picture really does look good
ReplyDeleteLove your new header.
ReplyDeleteThey sound like they should be good but what a disappointment. You will have to smother the final one in something to disguise it - look and taste! I think the only instant pie-type grub we occasionally buy are Morrisons Steak Pies, which are very nice.
I feel the same about "boughten" pizzas. They always disappoint. The one I made this week (hadn't made for ages as Tam doesn't like that topping) was just SO tasty. My freezers are full now I've had a couple of cooking sessions.
I buy the cheapest of cheap pizzas and then add my own topping which I batch make.
DeleteThe flowering cherry has decided spring is on the way
What a disappointment!
ReplyDeleteShame as the picture looks so appetising. I often look at these kind of things for a change but am put off by the red fat and orange salt warnings on label.
ReplyDeleteWish I'd taken notice of the red and orange and left them in the Aldi freezer!
DeleteThey look really good in the picture - so disappointing for you I shall nt bother to tell my vegetarian son.
ReplyDeleteIt is so disappointing when you spend money on something, and it is not as good as anticipated.

Have to say that spinach, asparagus and sweet potato together does NOT sound appealing! At ALL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. I saw them when we did the little Aldi shop. Glad I didn't buy any now :/
ReplyDeleteIt does seem lots of the packaged foods are not that good. The picture on the packaging always looks great. Let the buyer beware.
ReplyDeleteThe do look nice, pity they did not taste as good. Did you get to the car book sale last weekend at NM? My friend told me there were only a couple of sellers there, but it was open yesterday too.
ReplyDeletePouring with rain last Saturday here so I didn't go but went to Woolpit on Sunday instead did pop in on my way to shopping yesterday - no real treasures - picture will follow!
DeleteThank you everyone for comments here and apologies for not replying to everyone individually
ReplyDeleteThis brings back a very old memory of my mother saying to a small child who didn't like the meal, "Don't taste it, just eat it!" Now that I buy much of my food ready prepared, I think of that often. Her other standby was "Pretend it's mashed potatoes."
ReplyDeleteThings are worth a try, but I hate being disappointed in so many of them.
ReplyDeleteI went ooh when I saw the package and then read the description and groaned.
ReplyDeleteI like that they are in fact vegetable things though. Here in the US it is easier to buy vegetarian/vegan products now, but they are ultra expensive compared to their meat counterparts and they are all designed for meat lovers. Not a veggie in sight! They are all designed for meateaters who want a substitute. I would love to have a straight veggie something (I do make my own).
