The March Library Book Photo

Just a small haul collected from the library van this month, and three by the same author. Think it will be more "reading from my shelves" in the next 4 weeks.

The three by the same Author are all crime fiction by Anthony Berkeley written in the 1930's, ordered at different times but they've all turned up at once and the worrying thing is that some of his books are a bit odd and I've failed to finish them........which doesn't bode well.
I know I will like the books by Marion Todd, Alys Clare and D.E.Stevenson. I ordered the 'The Tenth Gift ' by Jane Johnson because I enjoyed 'The Seagate' and right at the bottom, half chopped off my poor photo is an old book by Beverley Nichols called Merry Hall. He was a well known author and broadcaster and his books about gardening were very popular from the 50's to the 70's. This book is about establishing a garden at his home in Surrey. I ordered it because the information about it popped up somewhere although now I've no idea where or why.

Out of the books I collected in February(below) most were read and have been listed on the Books Read 2022 page and I'm reading the large Ann Granger book of short crime stories at the moment. The Hedgerow Apothocary and The Garden Apothocary are still here waiting for me to note the pages I want to photocopy and take them to the library to get them done.

I've put them on my wish list but they are far too expensive for purchasing at the moment, perhaps the price will drop after they've been around a while or maybe I'll just stick with the few photocopies.

It would have been Colin's 65th birthday today - aiming for no sad memories - only the happy ones.

Back Tomorrow

  1. And you will have absolutely loads of happy memories of your life with Colin, Sue. He'd be so proud of you for the way you've coped these past few years.

That book haul this time is tiny in comparison to what you normally get - you'll whizz through them in no time!

Book haul is worrying! I've got loads on order but they all got waiting lists

  3. Happy Heavenly birthday to Col. He would be so proud of you and all you have achieved.

I hope that you find the "odd ending" books aren't as bad as you thought, and anyway, you have a good library to fall back on. I have a small bookcase full of unread books as a dear friend keeps sending me the ones she has bought and read and doesn't want back. She lives alone so has plenty of reading time.

    1. I hope he would have approved of my move here.
The number of un-read books on my shelves is diminishing. Good thing it will be gardening time soon

  4. A lovely selection of books and so nice that the van comes round.
It is my daughters 60th birthday today and my husband would have been 88 on Tuesday. We had a nice day out yesterday with my sister and B-in-L.

    1. The library van suits me as I can collect everything ordered all at once and keep them for 8 weeks if needed.

  5. I was introduced to the Beverley Nichols book by my Mum (thanks, Mum) and I have enjoyed all his books I have read so far - the Allways series, Merry Hall series, Garden Open today etc. He has a good eye for detail and observation of the people around him (he can be quite acerbic!) and it is fascinating to follow his gardening plans. It is also about a world which if not totally gone, has certainly changed. I hope you enjoy Merry Hall and thank you for the reminder - I am off to re-read them all.
    Best wishes
    Ellie

  7. A good day for remembering all the happy times, and there were so many. Sending a big hug. xx

Could you take a photo of the pages you want and print them off yourself on from your computer?

    1. My printer is a pain - I need a new one but keep putting it off because of having to learn how to use a new gadget!
The library is only 10p a sheet so not too expensive

  8. It is good to remember happier times and how thankful you must be to have those memories. I am lucky to fish one book let alone a stack I just have as my grandmother would say "To many irons in the fire"

  10. I can't read the title of the D.E. Stevenson book in this month's photo, too much glare. Clearly one of the Dean Street Press/Furrowed Middlebrow reissues. Happy Reading.

    1. Terrible photo as I was in a rush! It's Winter and Rough Weather which I have actually read before back in library days when they were very popular, but as that was 50 years ago I can't remember it at all

  11. You have some very interesting sounding titles in this month's collection, especially the British Library ones. I'm not familiar with either of those!

  12. May you enjoy all the happy memories and celebrate him on this day. I have a feeling that is what he would want.
I love that you have a library van come around nearby. I hope you enjoy the books you picked up.

  13. Wishing you a good day with happy and loving memories of all the good times you and Colin shared together. Regarding a new printer, I bought a Brother printer in 2019. It is easy to use and the print cartridges are less costly than most. Outstanding reliability too.

  15. Being a fellow book lover I'm always interested to see what others have chosen. I'm currently ploughing my way through "The Lore of the Land" which is fascinating, but absolutely huge with 800 pages! Arilx

  16. I'm glad you are concentrating on the happy memories. We have so much to be thankful for, with the wonderful years we spent with our respective hubbies. This week my man would have turned 69 years :)

  17. Thanks so much for visiting my blog! I've added you to my blogroll too as it seems as though we like the same kind of books. In fact I bought Jumping Jenny only a couple of weeks ago for my Kindle. I've read one book by Anthony Berkeley, I can't remember the precise title but it was the famous Chocolate Box one where the members of a detective club all try to solve a murder. I got rather bored by all the repetition but it was very well written. Enjoyed your book photos.

  18. Not many books this time, you should be through those in no time.

Happy memories to keep you wrapped in Colin's arms.

    God bless.

  19. I hope you had a good day. I'm not sure what to say, but thinking of you. Can't imagine it's an easy day.

You do like your mystery books! Another bunch of good library books to read.

  20. I think it is good to remember our loved ones on birthdays, even if it hurts. I just made a calendar for my mother of our trip together in September and I did not hesitate about putting birthdays of deceased family members on it. What is hard, I think, is when you don't have someone with whom to talk about them.

Anyway, I have seen some hints of daffodils appearing in Boston but we had an inch of snow tonight (just enough to cause car crashes on the highways), which is not good for them at all.

I have been looking for Marion Todd, perhaps at your recommendation, but her books are not published here. Maybe I will find some in charity shops when I reach London in June.
