Apologies for mentioning the Christmas word in June but I saw these jute shopping bags at a boot-sale at 3 for £5 and had a brainwave...........
This Christmas, to make a change from the usual hampers that I do for my sister and for Col's sister, I'm going to fill these bags with some home made chutneys - if I get round to making any - plus some eco-friendly products.
Good to have a plan!
And as an antidote to mentioning Christmas it was good to watch the tennis tournament from Queens Club in the heat of last week. Because we don't get to hear about tennis so often in this country (unless you have a paid-for TV channel) we don't know about new up-coming players until they arrive here to play on grass in the summer. At last there are youngsters who can take over from the always injured Rafa and the misery of Djokovic.
One week until we see how they get on at Wimbledon........exciting!
Back Tomorrow
Sue
That's a great plan for Christmas gifts. I love it. xx
ReplyDeleteA bit different to a food hamper I thought
DeleteGood idea for the Christmas gifts - contained in a bag that's useful for years. I have 3 jute shopping bags I bought from the Eden Project in Cornwall, must be 10 or 12 years ago - they're a bit tatty now but still got loads of life in them.
ReplyDeleteI have several jute bags all for free or cheap at car boot sales - much better than cloth bags I think as I always get in a tangle with the handles on a cloth bag
DeleteGood idea for the c word gifts.
ReplyDeleteThe young Spaniard who won Queens was refreshing.
New boys coming up.
I will always miss watching Roger Federer play though. I loved his style and absence of theatrics. Great player. But hey life moves on.
I never was a huge Roger F fan - bit too nice!
DeleteI watched some of the tennis too and I’m looking forward to Wimbledon. I think we will all miss ‘Fed’…my favourite ever tennis player! I played a lot of tennis for my school when I was young and I won the tennis cup in my last year at school. One day, we were playing a doubles match and I looked across the court at the visiting team and saw that Sue Barker was playing against us! I think we were thrashed! LOL! 😂
ReplyDeleteYes, I can see playing against Sue Barker would have been difficult - I guess she was brilliant even at school. Will miss her presenting Wimbledon etc on TV this year
DeleteExcellent plan for Christmas bags and these canvas bags wash and wash so should last for many years. Catriona
ReplyDeleteThey are jute rather than canvas - and washing makes jute bags very floppy
DeleteThe grunters and groaners have ruined tennis for me and I can't stand watching Nadal, even though he's a brilliant player. The tics really irritate me.
ReplyDeleteWell done on the bags - less than 6 months to go so catalogues will be dropping through the door soon, now that the evenings are drawing in ;-)
Doubtful much will be seen of Nadal anymore - so many injuries. I'm not a fan of women's tennis due to the noise some of them make.
DeleteSue \I do admire the way you plan your Christmas Goody bags.
ReplyDeleteHave to start thinking about Christmas early with 5 grandchildren to buy for nearer the time!
DeleteGood idea on the bags as they are much easier to store away than the baskets.
ReplyDeleteI used to feel the same way as you about tennis and have been to Wimbledon a few times, but I think when new young players could only score points with aces I became disinterested. I don't know what the tennis is like now I haven't watched it for years.
Tennis is just as interesting as years ago when I would rush in to watch after work. Lots of long rallies, young upcoming players, amazing aces.
DeleteLove a practical and possibly frugal idea. I've already got half my Christmas presents, I pick things up all through the year. I have a budget so quite often buy an expensive present at a reasonable price when they are on offer.
ReplyDeleteNot seen as much tennis as I would have liked but Wimbledon isn't far off.
I've not had much luck finding things through the year recently.
DeleteA great idea! I ended up getting a couple of recyclable bags and my daughter and I keep passing them back and forth when we give one another things. It's quite funny really!
ReplyDelete6 months will fly by and having gifts planned and bought early is great. Avoiding the last minute rush is smart. I also use gift bags and decorated boxes for gifts and maintain a good stock. (I've eliminated wrapping paper entirely.) Everything was bought discounted at the end of the holiday season. I am also looking forward to Wimbledon.
ReplyDeleteThe bag idea is a great one, they will be even more useful than baskets.
ReplyDeleteWhen I opened my shop I had small sized jute shopping bags trimmed in green that were given free to anyone spending over £10 during my first weekend, and because I still had lots of them by my first Christmas there I sold them with a Christmas decoration tied on with tinsel as a hamper idea, it worked really well and they were requested again the following year.
I give food, if anything, at Christmas, because it's welcome and consumable. I'm at a stage where I've outlived most of my Christmas list!
ReplyDeleteLovely Christmas idea to ring the changes. Last year I learned how to make soap to give as Christmas gifts, I enjoyed making it immensely but some of the ingredients are expensive so I didn't save anything! Thinking cap on for this year :-)
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
A jolly good idea with jute bags as gifts 👍 and I don't mind you mentioning Christmas in the least!
