......that's what I came home with on Sunday after getting rid of 3 boxes of stuff at the Sunday boot-sale.
I did say I'd never sell at boot sale EVER again but there were things that I didn't need and the weather forecast was fine and it seemed a good idea to get stuff out of the way before the Surrey family come up to stay at Easter.
They are here for my Big birthday family meal. The first idea was a party but I said I didn't have enough friends to invite! then someone suggested renting a large holiday house but it happened to be Easter weekend and it would have cost many, many £s! So I said let's just go out for a meal, so that's what we're doing with my sister and husband, Colin's sister and husband and BiL of course plus the 11 of us and DiL is making a cake, hopefully without 70 candles - that could set the place on fire!
And while the Surrey boys are here I must remember to measure and actually record their heights this time, we completely forgot to do the latter when they were here in January.
Our measurements from growing up as children are all on the inside of the cupboard door... of the house we moved from in 1970. Something portable makes a lot more sense!
ReplyDeleteThe pirate ship measurer has dozens of stickers on now - not much room for more!
DeleteMany happy returns Sue. Enjoy your family meal at the weekend. It will be quite a get together and well worth marking a special birthday.
ReplyDeleteThank you - hope it goes well
DeleteI've had good days and bad days selling at carboot sales Sue. I have ended up buying stuff and using all my takings. I am sure even shops have good days and bad days takings.
ReplyDeleteAt least doing a boot-sale on my own means I spend nothing as I can't look round!
DeleteMany happy returns, Sue. We're having a family bbq in May as its impossible for everyone to come in April. We are measuring family heights on the side of the garage.
ReplyDeleteIt was handy with it being Easter hols
DeleteHappy birthday, turns out you are just a few months older then me, I hope like me you don't feel your age.
ReplyDeleteMy knees tell me I'm 70 but my head is about 35!
Deleteevery penny counts!
ReplyDeletehave a lovely family time and Happy Birthday!
£32 is a handy extra for the months income with everything going up
DeleteSo much fun to measure the children. When our girls were small and we met up with family we would take a photo of them lined up in age order and then in height order. The heights changed so much over the years and the shortest came to tower over the others etc. It's fun to look back at the changes.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy 70th birthday with the family.
Penny
A lovely idea - might try that if we can get them to stand still!
DeleteHave a happy birthday with the family and hope there is cake. Catriona
ReplyDeleteDiL makes lovely cakes
DeleteMany happy returns. Hope you all enjoy the get together and meal at the weekend
ReplyDeleteIt will be lovely as it's such a rare event
DeleteHappy Big Birthday ! Enjoy your special day with the family.
ReplyDeleteBoot sales as well as craft stalls can be very hit and miss. At least you emptied 3 boxes and cleared some space,
Angie
Only a dozen things came back into the house - and a few to charity shop so not too bad
DeleteEliminating things no longer needed/wanted always feels positive. The Boot sale worked well for you, and coming home with some profit is even better.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best for your special day! Your B-day celebration with family sounds perfect.
It will be a lovely get together
DeleteHappy Birthday, I hope you have a lovely day today and a great time at the family meal.
ReplyDeleteI would much rather have a nice meal out than a party, much less pressure on everybody. Like you we didn't book a holiday for my birthday weekend this year, it's Easter, bang in the middle of school holidays and all the costs were prohibitive, we're going next month instead. That height chart was a wonderful idea.
I wasn't sure about spending a weekend with the whole lot of children and grandchildren was a good idea for my sanity!!
DeleteHappy Birthday wishes for a wonderful day and many years ahead! I find big parties quite stressful and much enjoy a family meal much better. I’ll be 70 next year but I still feel young inside and have done a double take passing a mirror as that old person in there looks a bit like my long deceased mum.😂
ReplyDeleteI'm still 35 in my head but my grey hair and dodgy knees say otherwise!
DeleteSorry above message from JennyP from Australia
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I think the meal out is best -- simpler, no hostess working to keep everyone supplied and happy!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good compromise - and simple too
DeleteHave a really lovely time celebrating your Big Birthday with the family xxxxx
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x

DeleteHappy birthday, Sue! I always plump for a meal out too, hate parties.
ReplyDeleteSeemed a good idea without too much fuss
DeleteWell done on the car boot sale!

Definitely NO MORE boot sale selling - EVER!

ReplyDeleteSending you VERY happy birthday wishes. I remember 70 a few years ago. It wasn't a year I wanted to celebrate (those zeros are hard!) but glad to have made it so far! I know you will have a lovely celebration. And do share more as it happens!

ReplyDeletegod bless.
I hope your birthday celebration is a grand one. I'm two years behind you, so you can tell me what life looks like from 70!
ReplyDeleteMore and more I like the idea of going out for a meal. Much easier than preparing your house, the meal, then cleaning it all up! I hope you have lots of fun stuff to post about your big day.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a perfect birthday celebration xx love the idea one reader had about lining up the grandchildren! X
