£32.20p.................

......that's what I came home with on Sunday after getting rid of 3 boxes of stuff  at the Sunday boot-sale.

I did say I'd never sell at boot sale EVER again but there were things that I didn't need and the weather forecast was fine and it seemed a good idea to get stuff out of the way before the Surrey family come up to stay at Easter.

They are here for my Big birthday family meal. The first idea was a party but I said I didn't have enough friends to invite! then someone suggested renting a large holiday house but it happened to be Easter weekend and it would have cost many, many £s! So I said let's just go out for a meal, so that's what we're doing with my sister and husband, Colin's sister and husband and BiL of course plus the 11 of us  and DiL is making a cake, hopefully without 70 candles - that could set the place on fire!

And while the Surrey boys are here I must remember to measure and actually record their heights this time, we completely forgot  to do the latter when they were here in January.

The pirate ship height measuring thing came from garage sales when we were living in Ipswich in 2016

 - when EGS was only a few weeks old. It moved house with me  and  now it's covered with labels - names, dates and height for all 5 grandchildren.
They all  look at it when they visit to see if they are taller/shorter than their cousins were at the same age and to see how much they've grown  - which is just what I hoped when we bought it.

  1. Our measurements from growing up as children are all on the inside of the cupboard door... of the house we moved from in 1970. Something portable makes a lot more sense!

    1. The pirate ship measurer has dozens of stickers on now - not much room for more!

  3. I've had good days and bad days selling at carboot sales Sue. I have ended up buying stuff and using all my takings. I am sure even shops have good days and bad days takings.

    1. At least doing a boot-sale on my own means I spend nothing as I can't look round!

  4. Many happy returns, Sue. We're having a family bbq in May as its impossible for everyone to come in April. We are measuring family heights on the side of the garage.

  7. So much fun to measure the children. When our girls were small and we met up with family we would take a photo of them lined up in age order and then in height order. The heights changed so much over the years and the shortest came to tower over the others etc. It's fun to look back at the changes.
Have a happy 70th birthday with the family.

  10. Happy Big Birthday ! Enjoy your special day with the family.

Boot sales as well as craft stalls can be very hit and miss. At least you emptied 3 boxes and cleared some space,

    1. Only a dozen things came back into the house - and a few to charity shop so not too bad

  11. Eliminating things no longer needed/wanted always feels positive. The Boot sale worked well for you, and coming home with some profit is even better.
Wishing you all the best for your special day! Your B-day celebration with family sounds perfect.

  12. Happy Birthday, I hope you have a lovely day today and a great time at the family meal.

I would much rather have a nice meal out than a party, much less pressure on everybody. Like you we didn't book a holiday for my birthday weekend this year, it's Easter, bang in the middle of school holidays and all the costs were prohibitive, we're going next month instead. That height chart was a wonderful idea.

  13. Happy Birthday wishes for a wonderful day and many years ahead! I find big parties quite stressful and much enjoy a family meal much better. I’ll be 70 next year but I still feel young inside and have done a double take passing a mirror as that old person in there looks a bit like my long deceased mum.😂
