The extra Easter bits were added to the seasonal display on the bookshelves, just for the weekend. Nothing 'new' this year and there wouldn't be, because I'd only ever buy from a charity shop etc anyway!
The Surrey family didn't arrive until Saturday due to SiL's late flight back from the US on Friday. But were in plenty of time for getting to the big family meal - for my 70th birthday - at a local (to Son and family) Indian restaurant. 16 of us all together.
It was a very delicious meal, lots of choice with something for everyone to enjoy and DiL made me a gorgeous cake.
"Happy Birthday" was sung to me twice because the 7 sparkler 'candle' lit OK but the 0 wouldn't, so when Son eventually got it going they had to sing all over again!!
Sunday there was an Easter Egg hunt for all 5 Grandchildren in the small garden here and then they hid eggs for us grown ups to find which they thought was great fun so could become a family tradition when we are altogether again at a future Easter.
In the afternoon we had a good walk around a local country park - Thornham Estate - last time we all went was 2019 and there were only 3 grandchildren.
3 small Grandchildren in 2019 |
5 bigger Grandchildren in 2025
My children clubbed together to get me a pair of decent binoculars and I also had some other presents from everyone too.
A lovely Big birthday weekend. Thank you to all the family for making it so special.
Back Soon
I love your Easter display and how gorgeous is that photo of all 5 grandchildren. Sounds like a great way to celebrate being 70. Have a lovely week x
ReplyDeleteA special weekend thanks to my family
DeleteThat sounds like a great birthday celebration. Happy birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteOurs loved their egg hunt in the garden, Will found a bag with 5 bunnies in, instructions on the bag said, one for mummy and each grandparent, went down well, I shall make it our tradition.
ReplyDeleteThe three oldest hid eggs for us and thought it great fun
DeleteWhat a lovely memorable day!
ReplyDeleteA lovely weekend

The cake was delicious and huge so lots of people took some home with them
DeleteSuch a lovely pic of your gorgeous grandchildren, how they gave grown. Pleased that you had a lovely birthday meal with the family. Carole R.
ReplyDeleteThe oldest will be 9 next month - how the years have whizzed by
DeleteHappy belated birthday wishes! How nice to have such a loving day with your family celebrating your birthday!
ReplyDeleteA really good weekend
DeleteHow lovely to have them all together for such a "milestone" birthday celebration. I am glad the sun for you
ReplyDeleteYes, we were very grateful for good weather for the weekend - would have been difficult without
DeleteWhat a lovely celebration you had - of course 70 is a “big number birthday” so needs to be properly acknowledged. Good binoculars will be a joy to use on your perambulations. How long-legged your eldest has become, and the gorgeous touch of red in their hair is special too.
ReplyDeleteWe had a quiet Easter - it’s school holidays here, and the family flew down to Queenstown - so exciting for the two, who were put into air hostess jackets and allowed to help give out the landing boiled sweets. They will remember that!
That sounds fun for the hostess assistants!
DeleteWhat a lovely Easter weekend and birthday celebration. The grandchildren really have grown so much haven't they. I love the idea of them hiding eggs for the grown ups to find, that's a new family tradition for sure.
ReplyDeleteI was hiding eggs and the garden isn't big so some were left and I had the idea that the oldest three could hide them for us grown -ups. They loved it - Son won - he's very competitive I discovered!
DeleteWhat a wonderful birthday event. I really admired the beautiful cake. A great birthday weekend. A belated Happy Birthday to you. Your binoculars gift sounds lovely. I often use binoculars to try and identify a distant bird. I’m not a great bird spotter, I can often hear one, but then have difficulty spotting it on the tree. Jean in Winnipeg.
ReplyDeleteIt's been many years since I had good binoculars, now I need to go bird watching
DeleteWhat a lovely celebration and a super cake. Happy birthday, Sue!
ReplyDeleteWonderful family time and a lovely birthday
DeleteI love your Easter display! So sweet and pretty.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your birthday celebration was perfect! I like your idea of the kids hiding eggs for the grownups. I'm going to remember that for next year!
Thanks, Sue, and Happy 70th!
Seemed a good plan for grandchildren hiding eggs for us - they loved the idea
DeleteMany Happy Returns Sue, sounds a lovely birthday.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was a good weekend celebration
DeleteBelated Happy Birthday Sue! It looks like you had the perfect celebration. You have joined our 70's club, :)
ReplyDeleteIt's just my knees that are 70 - my head is still 35!!
DeleteAin't that the truth!
DeleteYour wonderful family made a very special B-day celebration for you. Having everybody together is ideal. Indian curry is an all-time favorite and always pleases everyone. Nice choice. The cake looks amazing! Excellent work by your DIL. The florals on the cake top are life-like and very pretty. Your 5 beautiful grandchildren singing Happy Birthday and hunting eggs then hiding eggs for an adult hunt sounds like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your special day.
Happy belated birthday, Sue. I'm glad you had a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteYou had a very special weekend with the family and that is priceless. What a gorgeous cake. Your DIL did a wonderful job on making that.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Oh wow what a lovely birthday weekend! It sounds as though the whole family had a lot of fun and good memories were made. That is the best present there is! The cake looks beautiful
ReplyDeleteI love these photos. How fun to be with your family for both birthday and Easter celebrations. Isn't family time fun (we did it too!) And you have handsome grands!
