I was sat in the TSB bank waiting for an appointment and thinking that a few years ago there would have been a long queue waiting to be served and each position would be open, now they only open a counter if it's needed for someone to pay in coins. I said the same to the lady I saw for my appointment and then reminisced on the time before single line queueing and having to guess which queue at which counter was going to move quickest - banks and Post Office. Seems so strange to think how long it took to change to a single line. Then I thought OMG I'm turning into one of those old people who are always looking backwards!
Back at the end of the week with library book photo or before if I think of something worth saying!
This made me laugh. I'm the same and then think ' I'm turning into my mother '!!
ReplyDeleteWe still do that with supermarket queues, don't we? xx
I'd forgotten about supermarkets, I go early and hardly ever seem to queue now - Aldi are so quick and self-service check outs even quicker!
DeleteMy daughters were in the supermarket together and one said to the other "I do like a nice bit of mackerel" . Her sister agreed and they both had a fit of giggles "We're turning into Mum!". It happens in every generation eventually. At least you still have a bank to queue in. So many places in East Anglia have lost their banks and Post Offices
ReplyDeleteTSB and Nationwide are hanging on in Stowmarket but may vanish at any time!
DeleteI was too busy marvelling at you having a bank to sit and wait in to wonder about getting old. We are down to one bank in our town, not mine. I confess I try to do everything online now to avoid queuing. Fortunately we still have our marvellous village post office where I can do my banking etc.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same as Jane. We have no local banks now and have to travel. We have any number of hairdressers and barbers, though.
ReplyDeleteHere it's more and more bank buildings, every time a choice commercial spot sells, up goes another bank.. I don't see much activity though, since I suspect a lot of people bank online. I rarely enter a bank these days.
ReplyDeleteI usually bank online or use a drive-up ATM. Last week, the ATM would not accept one check, and I had to go inside. The entire bank layout was changed. The teller counter was gone. One woman sat in a very modern glass enclosed office. Across from her office was a modern living room with a sectional sofa and matching chairs (with nobody sitting there).
ReplyDeleteThe woman from the glass office asked me if I needed anything and she ushered me to a second office where the teller sat. He's the only telller. He manually deposited the check. He said it was oversized, and the ATM did not like it. I asked when the bank was re-decorated and was told two years ago. As I left one man arrived.
Banks are popping up in great numbers. There still more coffee shops but the banks are gaining in numbers.
My bank is like Susan describes in her comment. Just glass enclosed offices and 1 or 2 people sitting at desks. I usually use the drive up window which is more convenient.
ReplyDeleteI write few checks now and usually pay my bills online.
I can't even remember the last time I visited my bank lol
ReplyDeleteI do understand beginning to sound like an old person. I never thought I'd catch myself saving 'When I was young it wasn't anything like that. I remember when..."
I am definitely sure that I sound like an old person many times in a day.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yep, at least you have a bank. We had to supply our bank's details recently and the form asked for an address, so we had to dig out a very old cheque book to find it. All our banking has to be done online these days.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember pressing buttons A and B on payphones? I do, but which button did what?
