Last weekend I went to see the 8 year old EGD in the Dance Show. Chloe Kinkaide - or Miss Chloe as she is known to all her girls - and a few boys - runs ballet, tap and modern dance classes in several places over by the coast. EGD started when she was little and then stopped for a while but has been going again for a few years. Every other year they put on a show and it gets packed out with Mums, Dads, Nans and Grandads as well as brothers, sisters and many other relatives! There were almost 250 children taking part.
I sneaked in a quick photo at the end when nearly everyone was on stage for the final bow. The teeny- tinies are so cute in their tutus.
I never thought I'd say that I'd given up on an Elly Griffiths book but her new series of a time travelling detective starting with The Frozen People was too odd to bother with. It's science fiction pretending to be modern/ historical crime fiction. I watch Doctor Who but don't read Sci Fi. Maybe I'll come back to it sometime but I've plenty of other reading.
Boat Race Day on Sunday which traditionally is a must watch for me like the Grand National and The Eurovision Song Contest! This years UK entry is 'What The Hell Just Happened' by a three girl group called Remember Monday, who I've only just heard of though apparently they've been around a while.
Hope you have a good weekend.
Back Soon
I hadn't heard of the group either. I don't find the Eurovision Song Contest as much fun as I used to. So many lighting effects and razzmatazz, i can't focus on the actual songs. It must be my age!
ReplyDeleteIt's more about the production and costumes rather than the song now but it's a happy thing to watch
DeleteWe're such oldies here, gave up on eurovision when good old Terry Wogan left!
ReplyDeleteLooking hopeful for good weather this weekend š
Brilliant on radio and on the Eurovision - he is much missed
DeleteI love the Boat Race too. I went one year a long time ago and it was a very festive atmosphere. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeletePenny
I like that they now show the womens race as well as the men
DeleteI have been meaning to ask you about the latest Ellie Griffith because I hate it when an author goes off on another hero or heroine. So I will not get it on Audible. What a lot of little ones in the ballet group, they all look very sweet.
ReplyDeleteIt might be OK but I tried a chapter and decided I'd rather be reading something else
DeleteI, too, have books from a mobile library here in Wales. I found the Jim Kelly books by accident. I am gradually making my way through themš. My husband comes from the Cambridgeshire Fens so I am forever asking if a place is fact or fictionš.
ReplyDeleteI Love finding a new author who already has a back catalogue of books that I've not read - I've reserved more - the library have several
DeleteWe've got the Boat Race in mind for tomorrow, too. I hope the controversy over the Cambridge boat won't affect their performance.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been lovely seeing your granddaughter dancing. Organising a show for 250 participants is quite an undertaking . . . and a headache!
I shall have to find out what the controversy is, as I've missed hearing. I know they are more worried now about the Thames pollution
DeleteThat filled to capacity stage looks amazing, well done to all the dancers. I bet there were lots of nerves backstage before the curtain went up. ā¤ļø
ReplyDeleteIt's a massive undertaking - with the children having to bring packed lunches and parents having to go back and forwards for rehearsals and
Delete3 performances.
This was granddaughters second time so she was OK with it
Saturday morning is starting off with snow. There's a pile of mulch delivered yesterday on our driveway that was to be spread on the beds today. Don't think that will be happening with the snow falling fast and furious.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a very long recital with that many children participating.
We are having a lovely sunny warm Saturday here but it's all change next week
DeleteWow, lots of bairns there! What a lot of work they and the adults will have done. And I see there were multiple performances too.
ReplyDeleteWhen you mentioned that Elly Griffiths book on your earlier post I admit to an inward grimace! Science Fiction and Fantasy are not my genres at all.
Iāve so enjoyed the Rory Clements books you recommended last year. Must have a look at this new guy. Enjoy your weekend. Jānan
I tried the Elly Griffiths for a chapter but then decided I could be reading something that I liked more.
DeleteRory Clements is such a good writer always good reading.
It's lovely to get new ideas, I'm hoping never to run out of authors to read!
What a spectacular event for your EGD to take part in. I used to dread these events as a Mum because they cost a fortune for all the costumes that I could have easily made myself for a lot less. Daughter gave up when she went to Secondary school and she played hockey on Saturdays-at least I only had to be Mumās taxi then. Catriona
ReplyDeleteIt's a very expensive thing for parents - glad my girls only did Brownies and Guides!
DeleteThey have to go to have individual and group photos taken a few days before and then sell them for £14 each!! - I didn't buy one!
Thanks for the mention of Jim Kelly as I see my library has a bunch of his books so I have placed a hold on one. I was sorry to hear about the newest Elly Griffiths - I have that on hold, too. I have a wait for that one so we will see if I try it or not...
ReplyDeleteI Hope you enjoy the Elly Griffiths despite me not bothering with it!
DeleteI know what you mean about the Elly Griffiths series about time travel. When I finished the Ruth Galloway series, I looked on Fantastic Fiction fir more of her books and tried that series. It was a big nope. I'll look for Jim Kelly's books. I can't always get the books you talk about here in the US but I always try.
ReplyDeleteThe Frozen People is the first one of a new series only just published - her other series is set in Brighton featuring a retired magician - I enjoy those.
DeleteHow nice to attend the dance recital. The only sports I enjoy watching are the ones my kids (when young), and now, grandkids are participating in. Nothing worse than a book you canāt get into. Enjoy your day! Cali
ReplyDeleteI enjoy going to watch the dance show - hope she continues so I can go again in 2 years time
DeleteBallet is a very nice interest, and it requires a commitment and discipline. The group photo showing all those costumes is lovely. They fill the stage!
ReplyDeleteSo many children - nearly all girls - I think they had a good time , the audience enjoyed it all
DeleteI just last week requested "Frozen People" from the library. Maybe I should cancel! There are quite a few people ahead of me.
ReplyDeleteThe little ones are always so cute doing their dance routines. I was in tap for 10 years and loved the recital we would put on at the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I interesting about the new Elly Griffith - I have it on hold at the library but with a hundred or so in front of me in line wonāt be seeing it for a while. The recital looks fun - pictures for sports etc are quite a scam here too! Ceci
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a lovely time watching EGD in the show. They all look so lovely.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the Elly Griffiths. I so enjoyed the Ruth Galloway series.
I will be going to see my EGD's competition the weekend after Easter. I am very much looking forward to it. While we were waiting for her youngest sister to be born, in an effort to keep her busy, I put on a you-tube video with a ballerina, who was teaching children very basic positions. She was so beautifully intent on it. Studying her feet, studying the ballerina's feet. From the beginning, it was her 'thing'. She's had gymnastics. Soccer. Piano lessons. Dance. Turns out that she is a dancer. That is her love. I've seen her last year. I am looking forward to seeing how much she's learned. They have taken 2 golds in competition.
