£50 February? A Post That's Hung Around For Months!

Do you remember No/Low Spend November? (probably not). Then came Decadent December(which wasn't) followed by Just Stay In January(which was) and during Just Stay in January I had a brilliant idea for good alliteration for  February ................£50 February!

Breakfast -  toast home made bread

Other meal
Sandwich and fruit

I even bought a couple of things and took some photos of items from the list that I had in the cupboard anyway...............

BUT.............. I had lots of meals I'd batch made in the freezer that needed be used, and things left from Christmas that really needed eating. Then I used half  the packet of stuffing mix plus nuts that were in the cupboard which needed using PDQ to make a nut loaf.

And THEN it was the end of February and in the freezer there were still chipolatas from Christmas, some of the last of the chicken breast meat bought months ago and my home made veg curry and a couple of pizza toppings.

And the freezer really needed emptying and defrosting before the weather warmed up.

So...............it just never seemed the right time to get started!

Which is why £50  February  became  Maybe March? (didn't happen!) or even Attempt in April? (no) or Might be May!! (doubt it) but more likely it is Just Give Up in June!

Back Soon

  1. Hanging head in shame knowing there are several unidentifiable bits and pieces in our freezer space just waiting for the right moment…possibly Armageddon?

    1. I add stuff to the freezer, I take out stuff to use - never want to find it empty!

  2. The spinach was unbelievably successful in the garden last year. We ate the baby leaves in salad, I shredded it into soup, and served it as a side veg...but even so there is loads left in the freezer. I'm not Popeye, I just cant face eating it...

    1. Spinach always ran to seed for me so I grew chard instead but now I just keep a bag of frozen spinach in the freezer - simple for curries and lasts for ever

  3. It's interesting to see a list of ingredients and all the meals made from them, I think you did really well. It's so useful to have some batch cooking in the freezer, this week's batch was lots of vegetable soup. I could live on soup but my husband would complain! £50 for food shopping for the month was an achievement.

  4. What an interesting post showing the cost per portion. I’m hoping that sale days are coming soon as I need to change up my diet to include more interesting and tasty food. Catriona

  8. Life's too short. I'm economical (always have been) so I eat what I like and don't fuss too much about meals. I don't spend a lot but I don't keep track like you do.

  9. That's a very thorough and comprehensive spend plan for February. It made me laugh when you abandoned the plan until some unknown future date.
For sure, I am not disciplined enough to succeed with a plan.
For example, this morning, I am thinking I'd like spicy beef burgers on brioche rolls and a salad for dinner. Clearly, my taste buds' rule!

    1. I always get my receipts so I know what I spent and how much it's gone up!

  12. Life has become much easier now that we label everything in the freezer (using masking tape and fineliner pen) including date frozen, and keep a reasonably up to date list of what's in each drawer. Then every couple of months we do a complete audit... it helps that it's a small freezer.

  13. I had done a great job of using things up in the fridge freezer...It is full of bits and bobs once again. I also have a couple of meals I need to use up from my batch cooking as well.

    God bless.

  14. Do you know what's happened to Elaine of Tales from Parsonage Cottage? It's been many months since she posted. I know I found her again on your blog after she'd disappeared before.

  15. It would have been a good plan, if it had worked out for you. One of the reasons that I stopped my challenges was that life just kept getting in the way. Something would nearly ALWAYS crop up that meant lots of jiggery pokery to either keep going or to get things back on track. It would have been impossible in this first quarter of the year. If nothing else this exercise got you thinking and gave your brain a good work out. :-)
