Spotted these packs of pizza bases on the stall of a guy who sells food items just past the BBE date at the car-boot sale. 3 packs for £1 there are two in a pack. This is cheaper than I can make them.
Most of what the guy sells at boot sales is sweets, chocolate, crisps , biscuits and fizzy drinks so I rarely buy from him and his jars of coffee are more expensive than special offers in shops but I usually have a look.
To go with them I've made a new batch of pizza toppings for the freezer -
Using 2 cans of drained and chopped plum tomatoes, finely chopped onion, tomato puree and minced garlic and cook until thickened.. I usually just top with grated cheese and sometimes also slices of mozzarella cheese and very occasionally pepperoni slices. So much cheaper and better than a bought pizza.

Incredible bargain, I wish we had stalls like that - and the house clearance people - at our local big boot sale.
ReplyDeleteI usually look at his stall but rarely buy - these were a good spot
DeleteThat's a great price. Do you use any herbs in your pizza topping? Xx
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I forgot - I put in a good spoonful of oregano
DeleteI so miss Rogers Warehouse in Dorset which sold BBE stuff like that!
ReplyDeleteWould be a long way to go now!
DeleteI won’t be at KA this am but I believe this is a birthday for you? Have a great day and congratulations x
ReplyDeleteOh dear, hardly anyone going.
DeleteNot quite my birthday yet! but thank you
Blame Val for misinformation! Best wishes still in place!
DeleteWhat a well spotted bargain. I am making a fridge clearance pizza tonight with some garlic flatbread as the base. It will use up tomatoes, peppers and green veg as a side to save any waste. Yummy! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI love using up all the odds and sods from the fridge on a flatbread pizza, those bases plus your homemade sauces are going to brilliant for nights when you can't think of what to cook. They thaw out in the time it takes to top them with all the goodies too don't they, which makes for a quick meal. Well spotted on that stall, those types of stalls are usually full of the crappiest snack type food, but it's always worth a look.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great deal, makes for a very cheap pizza. Mick likes a ragu sauce on his pizza base so we make extra when having pasta bolognese which we then freeze ready to top his pizza base with.
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy. I don't bulk buy much due to lack of space in freezer. S
ReplyDeleteYour special birthday tomorrow. Best wishes. We must meet soon for a celebratory or comiseratory? coffee. PatC
Good find. Pizza is quick and easy which always works well after a busy day.
ReplyDeleteYour sauce makes a nice topping. I especially like a veggie/cheese pizza and sometimes cook onions, peppers and mushrooms to add to the top.
Another great bargain. You could teach some younger people a thing or two about money management.
ReplyDeleteMy freezer isn't that big. You are clever to plan ahead like that.
ReplyDeleteThat was a very good find on your part.
ReplyDeleteThank you to everyone for comments
ReplyDeleteI will be curious to see what you think of those pizza bases. I bought a couple packs of them, and they are like cardboard. I'll stick to making my own. You can freeze the dough, thaw it and shape it whenever you're ready.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome buy on those pizza bases.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Great buy! I agree homemade toppings are much nicer than shop bought.

That's how I use up the two slices of ham left in a 6-pack, chopped up fairly finely, add some sliced mushrooms for two ham & mushroom pizza toppings. I wonder, is it time to confess that I like Hawaiian pizza too??? The little Supermarket pineapple snack pots are ideal for this ( some find their way into the cook's mouth, purely for testing purposes of course).
ReplyDeleteWow that is quite the bargain!
