Oh Dear, I Went in a Charity Shop..............

.....................and spent money, even though it was supposedly  Low-Spend-January.

There's a thing about shopping as I do.............. almost everything second-hand.......... you have to buy it when you see it because it won't be there next time and you may never see it again.

Top photo is a very pretty storage box and a little kit to make a chicken from felt, these will both be Christmas presents for a friend. I think she will like them. £1.50 and 50p.Hope she doesn't suddenly decide to read the blog.

And a pair of cotton shorts for me for £3. A surprise.....  as I don't often look at clothes nowadays. Even more of a surprise to find shorts in winter. But something like this is a good rare find in big-bum size!

A good start to 2018............ rescuing things from landfill and helping charities too. (See the Halo!)

Back Soon

Thank you for lots of comments yesterday and ideas for the pinhead oats.

  1. Your halo is shining nicely 😊

As you say you have to grab these things when you can. I've set myself the challenge of a gift for Alan for each of the drawers of the now empty M and S advent calendar all little things from charity shops or car boot sales ... only 24 to go.

    1. I expect you will find lots of things to fill the drawers. The problems I had when finding bits for home made Christmas Crackers was getting things small enough to fit - that might be a test

  2. By spending now, you will have saved later so it's not really 'oh, dear', is it. Great finds!

  3. Your logic is right on, we get all the deals when we see them, it saves money in the long run, I got my sisters birthday present in January sales, much cheaper and a nice choice, in March (her birthday month) there are not so many nice things about.

  4. The box looks really pretty. Like you say - when it comes to bargains you have to buy them when you find them. At least it wasn't a lot of money!

  5. Sorry I missed you when you were in Leiston (yesterday?) Beautiful sun here today and I was pleased with the Rosie Thomas book.. my bum size is going down, albeit slowly so I shall wait to look for shorts, when I have dropped a size or two!! Good bargain for you.

  7. I like shops and I like buying things so the best course of action for me is to stay away! I managed a whole week without entering a shop just after Christmas (counting Christmas and Boxing day). That's not really very good at all. Supermarkets are the worst. I have to keep very busy!

    1. I often come out of a whole town full of charity shops with nothing - pleased with my finds

  8. Most of my friends have bought their next year's wrapping paper as it was being sold at four rolls for 50p - if I did that I would forget I had got it by next Christmas.

    2. There's an Oxfam, community charity shop, and two Children's Society charity shops (one ladies' clothes & bric-a-brac, the other books and men's clothes). It's a large village, good butcher on the High Street, even better Common Lane farm butcher's shop (Thurs -Sat), great greengrocer ("Mary's"), two bakeries, post office/ spar, Boots Chemist, Chinese restaurant, good fish & chip shop, an old-fashioned hardware shop, etc. Free parking behind Budgeons. Challis Garden worth a look if you have time to spare and if it is open (check website). I go there most weeks- highly recommend it!

  10. I am a firm believer in buying things for Christmas or birthday presents when I find them, particularly if they are in charity shops. If I don't, then I don't find anything suitable at a reasonable price at a later date. Carpe diem : )

  11. What lovely items. I am sure your friend will love her Christmas gift.

Buying things when you find them just makes sense. The turnaround in charity shops and second hand stores is very quick.

    God bless.

It's always a double win when you can pick up good quality presents from the charity shop.
