For a bigger harvest with enough to eat and freeze the garden needs rain. According to the weather lady on local TV June rainfall is under 10% of average, almost a drought. I can't remember when it last rained here.

I’ve just had our own raspberries with cornflakes for breakfast. A lovely seasonal treat. I bet the mangetout are fabulous.

ReplyDeleteYou're ahead of us. The mange tout are doing very well but far from fruiting yet. They were late in so no surprises. The raspberries, I am sure, tasted as good as they look - gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBone dry here in Devon. It's been about six weeks since we had any meaningful rain. We're having to go to my allotment every day to water. I'm picking raspberries and have some yellow courgettes nearly ready. Still not letting me comment as Fiona Adams so anonymous it has to be.
ReplyDeleteSame here Sue - one five minute thunder downpour a fortnight ago and that's it. I have had a tap put round the back of my bungalow and a hose fitted so that I can water as many of the plants are new and will really suffer. Some have already died. I have courgettes in gro bags and am watering well but little sign of much - two round ones growing slowly and that's it.
ReplyDeleteWe are in Scotland now and just heard on the news there are fires on the moorland not far from our house in Yorkshire and they are evacuating people. At the moment it is spreading towards Manchester - the opposite direction to us. All the resevoirs we passed on our journey up are really low.

Ahhh, those first little harvests from the garden! Aren't they just that much tastier? We desperately needed rain (farmers, too) and today we are seeing some nice steady rain. I have my rain buckets in place, too. -Jenn

ReplyDeleteWell apart from our huge underground leak of course, ironic eh! So we have no water in or out of the house apart from gallons going to
waste that I have no way of collecting ☹
Even our huge underground rainwater harvesting tank is starting to run dry because I've had to water the net tunnel as well as the polytunnel.
Dry as a bone here to, water the beans most nights and of course the courgettes and tomatoes. The roses spill over everywhere as well but lying on the ground.

ReplyDeleteMother Nature has been been selective with the rain this year. I think we got most of it as it has rained four out of seven days a week since April. Too much or too little is bad for gardens.

ReplyDeleteThat little harvest look delicious and probably a couple of weeks advanced compared to where my vegetables are right now. I have put in a request for rainfall each night - I included Suffolk in the request.

ReplyDeleteWe are not as bad as you but still way under average - less than a third of normal
ReplyDeleteMy water barrel is empty. I don't remember that happening in June.
But rain is in the forecast tonight. Fingers crossed.
I hope you get some rain soon. I also hope your tooth and jaw pain is receding. Headaches and toothaches seem to be extra painful as we just can't get away from them or be distracted from them.
ReplyDeleteYum. Nothing better than fresh fruit and veggies. Mum said rain was needed, but just a little (please!). I'm flying over on Friday. I don't mind a little rain but it would be nice to get out and about in the sun. Perhaps it could just rain at night?
