Monday

The plan was ................the plumbers would be here, taking the bath out of the bathroom and preparing to replace it with a shower. I would be busy doing something, then later I would be out at the East Suffolk  WI Summer Quiz evening.

What actually happened...................The filling that I had 4 weeks ago suddenly caused pain on Sunday and before very long I had a swollen jaw so I rang dentist first thing and arranged to go in between other patients for the dentist to look. The plumbers were late arriving so I had to organise them before I could get to the dentist.
After 3 injections to numb the gum he managed to take out the filling without me yelling and packed in some anti-biotics and gave me tablets too. I have to go back in 4 weeks for root canal/nerve thingy, Very Expensive but no choice.

Home again, feeling as though I'd been kicked in the teeth by something large and a phone call from youngest daughter who is in hospital with Florence -  taken to hospital early hours of morning when she (Florence) was struggling to breathe. She has been admitted - seems to be asthma - although they don't call it that for small children apparently. Terrible phone connection so I didn't find out how youngest and Florence will get home tomorrow or if they need me there to help as Youngest's OH is supposed to be working away all week. ( Florence is OK with help from nebulizer)

Meanwhile the plumbers are making a channel for the pipes down the wall with something that sounds like a Extra Large Dentist drill!

Ring sister-in-law and apologise  to say that I can't do quiz as I don't know how much pain I shall be in when anesthetic wears off and swollen jaw is affecting talking and I may need to go to Ipswich Hospital to help Youngest Daughter. WI were already one short for the quiz team as one lady has gone off to Wales to see a brand new grandchild. Oh dear.

Why does everything happen all at once?

Back Tomorrow
Sue

(PS. I'm sure I should have commission from Amazon with everyone pre-ordering that new Shirley Hughes book!)

  3. These days do happen. You hardly rememeber it in a month or two. Just look forward and keep on going. You are doing great. The antibiotic will soon help and eventhough it is a lot of money (rootcanal etc) it is great to be painfree. Take deep breath and look at something nice.

  4. Well that was a rotten day! Hope antibiotics start to work very soon. Poor Florence, so horrid for her and her mum, wishing her well. Better days ahead!

  5. Hope the antibiotics weave their magic so that you are out of pain very quickly. A scary experience for Florence and her mum so I hope she is also on the road to recovery and back home soon.

  7. Life has a way of disrupting your best made plans once in a while - you coped extremely well, but I bet you must be shattered now. Hope the tooth settles down with the antibiotics and that Florence is on the mend too. Not a nice experience and shame you missed the quiz. I bet you must really miss Colin at times like these.

  8. Ouch, it seems your Monday was as busy and chaotic as mine, I do hope little Florence is okay, at least I didn't have a poorly grandchild to worry about.

What I did have was a huge water leak, coming from the repair done less than a year ago, necessitating numerous phone calls Welsh water, insurance company etc. A dog that decided to visit the neighbour while she had company, and I was in the midst of the phoning around. So she stayed there until I could take my life in my hands and brave the main road ... which at least gave me chance to see just how much of our lovely Welsh water was spewing across the highway ... a LOT ☹ To calm myself down I took a walk round the paddock with both dogs, only to have the sheep escape while I was replenishing her water trough and begin laps of house, garden and garage. An hour later she was in the orchard with the gate firmly locked and I could phone Alan, who as usual is working away while all this goes on back at home.

Repairs can't be done until Wednesday, so we continue to water the road with refreshingly cold Welsh water, if it wasn't so muddy and gritty I would be lying down in it to cool off.

I hope your face is feeling a bit better today. Xx

    1. That sounds much worse than my day,
Chasing sheep is no fun.....and always happens when there is no-one to help.
I guess you are without water again what a pain.

    2. Sheep always seem determinedly stupid to me even when one is trying to help.your day sounds pretty awful and painful Sue in Suffolk.
Sue (our new life in the country) I seem to have been shut out of your blog altogether. If it's something I've said please let me know via my email so that I can apologise. I would hate to offend anyone. If it's general I'm really sad because I often visit your old posts to find recipes but appreciate that you have every right to close it. All the very best to you both. Sue

  9. Gosh - that's Life Conspiring, isn't it. I do hope the antibiotics and pain killers work quickly and it all settles down. And the granddaughter is bouncing again very soon.

  11. My goodness, what a horrid day. Hope today will be better. I feel for your daughter as all 3 of my sons had asthma in varying degrees. Good luck with the tooth. I have had many nasty things happening in my mouth over the years......broken crowns, broken teeth, 2 bridges etc etc. My dentist ( private) now has an injection that just affects the necessary tooth and doesn't make half your face disappear for hours..wonderful !

  12. My sympathies - tooth pain is miserable - I have suffered much in the past! So many little ones seem to have asthma these days. My two grandchildren have had their ups and downs with it ( and yes, one had it diagnosed even though they don't call it that in small children!). Hope you both improve very quickly.

  13. Poor you. I have had a root canal, nowhere near as bad as people told me. Good painkillers required for a couple of days. Also, make sure you get to sit up a couple of times to rest your neck and back. Try not over stretch you mouth as the procedure is long.

  14. Teeth are so tiresome. They cause pain and cost you money. A tooth problem can really make you feel under par. You can look forward to feeling much better after it is sorted. (Air quality is bad at the moment. A real problem for some.Poor little Florence. Hopefully the problem can be managed. So many little ones in my pre school have inhalers. My youngest son suffered badly as a baby/child. He never was diagnosed even after spells in hospital on a nebuliser. Very scary at the time. Now a fit and healthy 29 year old with no sign of asthma or problems.

  15. Morning Sue

Hope the tooth/gum has now settled down with the antibiotics and pain killers. There is nothing worse to me than tooth ache. Hope little Florence gets to come home today poor little thing. Everything seems to happen at once doesn't it:-(

  16. It is always the way isn't it. And root canal is only words. It is nothing different to any other dental work, unpleasant but not painful and takes a little while, but kind dentists realise it gets tiring and a bit awkward and allow breathing space, especially private dentists. In fact in the long term I find where I have had root canal work pain will no longer come and is banished to history. Have a good day and think positive at all times.

  20. It really does seem as though Monday hit a lot of bloggers in the same way this week! So sorry to hear about your tooth - you are now the 4th person who has mentioned root canals in the past week! Hopefully the antibiotics will doe their magic, the plumbers will finish, your daughter and GD will be home safely and your SIL will be understanding! Good luck.

  21. I think it is called Sod's Law Sue. My visitors have just left and the bathroom loo cistern has been on the verge of break down all the time they have been here. Now they have gone it seems to have cleared - but am ringing the plumber nevertheless.

  22. Oh dear - it never just rains, but it pours! Hope granddaughter is not too badly affected by the asthma and that your tooth will soon be repaired and you will be pain free.

  23. Oh poor you with the toothache. Sounds absolutely rotten. I'd be inclined to say take it out, depending on where it is of course, but not sure if that's even possible if it's infected?

Hope Florence is much better. Matthew had asthma as a child - seemed to be weather related but seemed to grow out of it in his 20's and Amy was classed as a happy wheezer - sounds odd but it's an actual medical term. By the time she'd started school she'd grown out of it as well. Let's hope Florence does the same. xx

  24. Oh my goodness. It does seem things all happen at once sometimes. I do hope you are soon pain free. I hate dental work and have some tomorrow. So sorry to hear about Florence. She must have been so scared. Hopefully she is much better. May the rest of your week be peaceful!

  26. You've had a stressful few days! I'm glad Florence is better, I hope she doesn't have a chronic condition, poor babe. And egads, the tooth thing.. what a nightmare. I hope the root canal goes easy.. I demand nitrous oxide for them and it helps, especially if you bring earphones and a good playlist on your smart phone. Take care. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  28. Oh, I do hope your tooth stops aching, Sue. I often think the dentist treatment is temporarily worse than the actual toothache! Glad your little Florence is okay, quite scary for everyone when a child has difficulty breathing. MegXx

  30. I do hope Florence is ok. My eldest grandson is asthmatic and was in hodpihos quite a bit as an infant. He was 13 yesterday and the medication he is on now is brilliant, thank heavens. Hope your infection subsides.
