The Ducks Came Back

When Jacob plus his mummy and daddy were staying last week and Eldest  daughter was looking out of the window she suddenly said, "Oh you've got ducks visiting"

I hadn't seen them for almost two weeks so obviously hadn't been looking out at the right moment...............
.
............because there they were, searching for bits under the bird feeders...... just like a couple of weeks ago and how they've grown!

Here's the photo taken few weeks ago....I think 12th May, maybe a few days before.

and now on 2nd June

Mother duck has done exceptionally  well to keep so many safe (9 or 10 we think). They should be big enough to avoid predators now.

(these photos made me notice that I needed to cut the grass again......seems a never ending job..... missing Colin - one of his favourite things was zooming round on the ride-on mower and he didn't take a turn too wide and run over huge stones either - do hope I've not damaged the blade! bet I've bent it)

Forgot to say 'Thank you' for the help with that setting for securing the blog the other day, I still don't understand why things have changed and it hasn't solved everything as I still can't always get onto comments on other blogs or reply on here and there's a yellow warning triangle on the top of the padlock symbol when I'm in drafts writing a new post - heavens knows why.

Plus also thank you for lovely comments on the grandchildren photos and encouraging words for me. I've moved some photos to the memory stick........ so next visit to Boots and I'll print some out for everyone to keep. They all take hundreds of photos on their phones but rarely get a hard copy. I'm old fashioned I want pictures to keep in an old fashioned photo album.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. Well done that duck! I know what you mean about special photographs, I like a printed copy, too. Much nicer for flicking through than the modern alternatives.

  2. Good for the ducks.
I guess mowing is a learnt skill and I'm sure you will get the hang of it.

    1. I'm OK on large areas, I used to do the campsite, but round tight corners I'm a bit dangerous

  3. That's good news. She is obviously an experienced Mother Duck to raise so many babies from her brood. I bet your grandchildren loved seeing them too.

Sorry about the ongoing computer/blogger problems. I have to call my son in to sort mine out as he knows far more about it than me.

    1. Jacob wouldn't keep still so soon frightened them away!
Not sure if the computer problem is me or blogger

  4. Wow, the ducklings have grown fast, clever Mother duck for keeping so many safe.

We've currently got two chicks and seeing them develop from tiny bundles of fluff to already starting to get proper little wing feathers is amazing. Unfortunately they've got no mummy except me, so they have to learn from watching the 'big girls' from their little broody house run.

I tjink the idea of a proper album for the family is lovely, that's what I did for my Mum's Christmas present last year. Trawled back through family photos on the computer, put them on a memory stick and went to Boots. It really is easy to do, I should do the same for myself.

    1. Yes Boots machines are easy to use and not overly expensive. Cheaper than buying a photo printer anyway

  5. They look like a fine healthy brood of ducks. Photobox recently did an offer on mini photobooks. We did one for a present for Mum in Law. A keepsake for a lovely family get together.

  7. Lovely to see the ducklings progressing. I think you are doing very well with the mower, no doubt each time you use it, it's getting more familiar with you. Colin would be very proud of you. Best wishes.

  9. Hurrah for the ducklings! I agree with you re photos, I have masses on my phone too but you can't beat an actual hard copy. Little children love looking at photos of themselves and a scrapbook might be a nice idea. Then they can look at how they have grown. Small grandchildren bring so much joy.

  10. I'm old-fashioned, too. I like photo albums, annotated so that anyone can look at them and know who is in the photo and where and when it was taken. When my father-in-law died everyone wanted to inherit his albums as they told the story of the last thirty years of his life with my mother-in-law. Keep on printing yours out, Sue. x

    1. When Colin's dad died last year they found lots of photos and have no idea who they are. I'm going to make sure I write on the back of all photos I have

  11. I love having hard copies of photos. It's just that I have to remember to do something with them. I've been trying to make up a few albums this year. It's nice to write down the memories that come with the photos. I know that my Mum has loads of photos and I've encouraged her to at least write who the people are on the back so that we all know! The ducks look wonderful. The poor swans down where I walk are down to one baby out of four. It makes me quite sad. I'm not sure I want to look any more.

  13. Bravo to that duck mother to keep them all safe.. there are so many predators for little ducks! You're right to want to have printed photos for albums.. I think we're all going to miss real pictures in the future. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  14. The mother duck has done well. Lovely to have them visiting. I keep photos on an external hard drive and on truprint but I also like to print some. It is so nice to look through an album.

  17. I do agree about proper photographs Sue. I have three - two quite large andone small - of the farmer in the sitting room and I get great comfort from them on those 'down' days which I still get from time to time.

  18. Ack! They are so cute!

I accept all the digital photos my family wants to send and then pick the best and print those. What happens when computers fail? All those bits and bytes will be gone forever! But I'll still have my copies - hah

  19. Do a Google search for photobooks. They are quite expensive, but someone always has an offer on! I do a photobook once a year. It's hard to narrow down from the thousands of pictures on my phone, but it does mean it's only the special ones that make it in! A photobook or album of Colin and his favourite things/ places/ people would be a wonderful gift for the grandchildren (and their parents). I'm not entirely sure Colin isn't in one of my photobooks, driving round the campsite on his mini tractor giving all the kids a ride in the trailer!
