When I picked up my requests from the library van it was quite a surprise because they've had a glitch in the system which was telling me only one book available to collect.
But there was a few more than one!
12 books collected and still have 8 here from last month and the Ngaio Marsh on the right is three books in one so that means a possible 22 books to read! Good Grief!
As usual most of my reservations are crime fiction........... old and new and some authors I've not read before.
Pick of the bunch? The new Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency book "Colours of all the cattle" will be an enjoyable read about sunny Botswana and also looking forward to reading "The Light in the Dark" by Horatio Clare which is about winter and has been described as "“Magical, moving and deeply atmospheric”.
Books read from last months batch have been added to the separate Books Read 2018 page. I did eventually read "The Salt Path" and enjoyed it despite the terminal illness.
Thank you to everyone for comments yesterday
Back Tomorrow

Just one book to read would have been more than a little disappointing, wouldn't it? I'm so glad that wasn't the case.

The plastic one looks interesting - I will make a note of that one to read and tell my mum about the Detective Agency one and The Stately Home Murder - they are her kind of read.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine your face when the librarian said there was ONE book to collect!!
ReplyDeleteMy computer said there was only one so it was a good surprise when he said "all those are for you".
DeleteIf there had only been one book you would have to read it slowly instead of your usual speed reading. Do you think you have lost the ability to read normally as you have been speed reading for so many years now? When I travelled across Siberia by train I only had one book with me, Howard Jacobson's The Finkler Question. I choose it deliberately because his books are long winded and when 100 words would do, he uses 500, but at the same time quite interesting. I read it once quickly, then once slowly!
ReplyDeleteWhat is normal, that is the question, whether 'tis using the eye to read each word individually in the line or being able to read all the words by moving the eye just twice over the line?
DeleteYou'll get the gist but what counts in some books at least is the detail.
DeleteI just finished "A Gentleman in Moscow" last night and highly recommend it. I do read the #1 series occasionally but I'm a real fan of the Isobel Dalhousie (or Sunday Philosophy Club) series that he writes - have you read them?
ReplyDeleteI am now looking at the pile of library books on my coffee table - 1 and a half to finish over the next couple of days until they are due back! Enjoy your reading!
Tried to make out the title of the Mel Starr book and what number of us in the Chronicles? Got to number 7 and then the library stopped getting them in. Will have to order. A good solid quick read I thought.
ReplyDeletePrince Edwards Warrant and it's the 11th. Fantastic Fiction website will give you the order of them
DeleteI have made note of all the mystery novels as most of the time when I read I need a break from the real world.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Me too!
DeleteThank you for the peak into your book pile - I'v added the Horatio Clare to my "wishlist" and the Chris Nickson looks interesting - enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't have to spend long scanning the shelves! As usual, I will be adding some of those to my library request list.
ReplyDeleteThat's alot of books to read in a month. I rarely have time to read books but still work at it...that's why I have some of my own books. I took back a book to library for my daughter. She started reading it then realized it was the 2nd book of the series. So she's going to find that one to read.
