Suffolk Show Part 1

This is where I went last Wednesday. Although it was dry it wasn't a warm day and I was glad that I hadn't gone in shorts!

I love sitting in the grandstand to watch some of what's happening in the Grand Ring. I was a bit late leaving home so got caught in traffic through Ipswich and missed most of the 8.30 start  first Show Jumping event. But the scurry racing was fun to watch.

Then had a walk round the HUGE showground, through the military area - Monster helicopter from Wattisham
Went passed the agricultural machinery area to get round to the Food Hall and Art Show, so one token photo of giant machines!

Out of the chilly wind and into the shelter of the art exhibition marquee.

Below some  photos especially for Jill in Fraserburgh ( I wish I knew how to get better photos of art when the lights are shining on the glass).
I picked up the catalogue to see who they were by how much selling for

Oystercatchers on the Deben - Linocut by Greta Hansen £150

Hareing Through the Undergrowth - Watercolour by Mandy Dearsley £195

And more Oystercatchers. Watercolour by Anthony Wells £225

And Long Tailed-tits. Water colour by Simon T Trinder  £295

These below  are large and amazing - but wouldn't be my choice for home. Acrylic on canvas by Georgie Baskerville  £200 - £320 each

As always I like the town or country views,  watercolours by very well known local artist Reg Siger. These had no price listed in the catalogue

More from the Suffolk Show tomorrow

Thank you for all the comments yesterday, I do hope that post didn't come over as complaining especially to people who for one reason or another are not able to spend time with their family. I love to spend time with them now as soon they will be at school and then not about so often, but phew, it was hot, dusty and tiring!

  1. I love those paintings but wouldn't pay that much for them. I guess I don't know enough to know whether they're worth that or not.
You didn't come over as complaining at all so please don't worry. And littlies can be utterly exhausting, can't they?

    1. No idea how artists work out what to charge - some must take hours and weeks to paint.

  2. I guess if you have to ask how much you can't afford it will apply to Reg Siger's paintings. Tis the season of the county shows again. Glad you had a lovely time.

    1. Siger's paintings are very well know in Suffolk, very detailed of the buildings.

  3. We enjoyed the Suffolk Show despite the chilly breeze. Spent most of the time watching the pigs. A friend won best Berkshire. It is a big show and was unaware of the art show which I would loved to have seen.

    1. I didn't go round the animals at all except for the goats, I used to like watching the livestock judging but it really needs two days to do everything then think walking round two days running might be a bit too much!

  5. I like the lino cuts and Oystercatchers water colour - although striking the canvases are not my taste either.
It looks like a huge show -we have the Yorkshire show up here, but I have never been - I prefer the smaller village events - I am not one for crowds.

    1. I think the Yorkshire show is probably even bigger as it's 3 days. Someone we knew used to take their pigs there every year as the competition was good

  8. Wow. Love the watercolours as thats my preferred media. Altho the lino cut of the Oystercatchers was brilliant. Loved all the wildlife ones. Acrylic I think you did not like, nor me. I get fed up of Hairy Coos in Acrylic up here in Scotland! Thank you so much. As regards the pricing. It does depend on the size a lot as the cost of framing is obviously more and you have to take that into account. My larger ones are over a £100. But unframed and just mounted are much cheaper. Thanks again for showing. Show looks ace.

  10. My favourite painting was the Long Tailed Tits. Love the wee chaps. Not mad on the last lot of paintings, mainly as I see them as prints on cushions etc here (and appearing on my FB feed too!) What a lovely day out you had.

  11. As you know, I love a county show too. The Suffolk show looks a very good one! The artwork is beautiful, love the Lino Oystercatchers and as I adore Highland Cows, I really like the windswept Highland Cow too. I take it they were originals, so the price I would say is pretty fair.
