A Little Bit of Stitching

More cross stitch has been done in the last 3 weeks
than in the last 3 years!
Which didn't take much doing as I'd not stitched for ages.

This is the latest make - just a little lavender sachet using some Aida band which can also be used for bookmarks and to make cake bands.

I bought a couple of metres of this umpteen years ago and still have enough left for a few more sachets, and a small bit of calico left to make the pouches that hold the dried lavender inside the Aida. But I don't have much dried lavender so must remember to dry some more of my own this summer.

What next? I need some more birthday cards for men, so had a search though my box of charts. I have a box file full of charts mostly pulled from cross stitch magazines years ago and saved from kits bought at boot-sales. Most of my charts are small designs and some have been stitched quite  frequently when I was selling cards at the Framlingham Country Market.

This frog has been stitched at least once before, originally a kit from  Textile Heritage they don't list the numbers of the colours so I must have matched my DMC threads to the originals when it was stitched for the first time.

Several different greens in this but it won't take too long to do. I've been stitching for an hour or so in the morning, sitting by the front window where the sun has been streaming in........ better than housework!

Back Tomorrow

    1. I'm always finding things to do instead of housework, luckily me and the cat don't make too much mess and muddle

  2. That is lovely. My anemones in the garden are just coming into bud too -just like these. I have got out two x-stitch projects too. One I bought exactly a year ago today when my birthday outing was to Wightwick Manor (arts & Crafts House) near Brum. I treated myself to a little x-stitchpicture of a William de Morgan tile, and started on it over the winter, but it got laid aside. As it's my birthday, and we're NOT having a jaunt anywhere, I shall sit in the sun with it today.

The froggy picture will not take too much matching for greens I am sure - if you are anything like me, you have a big stash of threads. Every project I have ever started, still needed yet MORE colours!

    1. I have never had any luck with anemones anywhere I've lived which is annoying.
When I first started stitching about 1992ish I had to go down to the handcraft shop every time to get the thread I hadn't got, then I came across an ad in a cross stitch mag where a company were doing a whole set of DMC threads really cheap, they were loose, not hanked or on cards but it was such a bargain.

  4. That must be nice and relaxing sitting in the sunshine by the window, and of course it's easily transportable so you could do some outside if it warms up again later.

I've not done cross stich or embroidery since I was a school ... and that was a few years ago ;-)

  6. So pretty. I used to cross stitch years ago, I came to it as the form we know it today {as opposed to in school lessons} in Saint Augustine, Fl. I haven't been able to stitch for years due to issues, but have made many lavender sachets and bookmarks for small enclosures that are light and unbreakable.

  7. More sewing is on my list, just have a lot of other projects on the go at the moment - mainly in the garden. It is a lovely idea to make cards though and as everyone else says much better than housework.

  8. I love your little sachet and the design is so pretty. I use to you cross stitch but alas I cannot do it now but am so happy I can do my crochet.
I am so lucky my daughter has just phoned me for my shopping list and I have but a cream apple turnover on the list.
Have a nice day everyone, the sun is out here.

  9. How pretty.

I'm taking a break from patchwork to do some embroidery at the moment, so nice to just take a little time to make a little decorative something.

  10. You should be doing cross stitch before housework, you are working alphabetically. Very pretty. Helen S.

    1. Haha ... brilliant Weaver ... it's that thing we do when a draught blows the dust, or someone writes their name in it (won't happen now so we don't have to do it) and the carpets feel so thick we think we bought a shag pile ;-)

  20. Love your cross stitch. It would take me six months to make one, and then it would be so shoddy I'd have to rip it all out. - Celie

  21. I am so pleased embroidery is making a return. I have been addicted for many years and get a lot of pleasure out of this. But it also helps with the arthritis.
