Short of ideas for a post so...............................
Sometime last year I took a photo of this photo which was originally taken by an East Anglian Daily Times photographer in about 1974/5? . It's been stored on my camera ever since so I thought I'd let it out of the camera, surprise Brother in Law and share it on the Bacton village Facebook Page! (and on here)
The photo shows Colin.........several years before we married........ being presented with his Chief Scouts Award by the District Commissioner for Scouting in Suffolk on the official opening of Bacton Scout Hall.
I had just started helping with the Cub Scouts at this time. The person in uniform in the background between the DC and Colin is Col's brother - my BiL .
I've got years of good memories of being a CSL until we moved away across to the coast in 1992.
Sadly, the Scout Hall which Colin helped to build in his late teens, stands empty and unused- not because of Covid but through lack of leaders.

So unmistakably Colin - what a great picture! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a handsome young man. No wonder you fell for him. xx
ReplyDeleteI agree, very handsome, and he and his brother are very alike.
ReplyDeleteA lovely picture to cherish of Col and his brother. Sad there are so few leaders these days - just shows how busy people are now as I believe that is one of the main problems that people just don't have the time to do these things. Most of our Adult ed classes are gone now because of poor attendance too.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely is that. The two were very like each other, weren't they? Good lookers, for sure.

Dear Sue,
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to have unearthed this picture of your husband and brother in law. Such handsome scouts!
Oh what memories so lovely to see Sue.
ReplyDeleteI to have very good memories of my guiding days especially my long days when I was a brownie/guide days. One thing stands out Just before camp we had our heads inspected to see if we had lice -- could you see that happening now.
Our scouting group is still very strong in the village.

A lovely photo of Col and your BIL evoking happy memories for you and BIL when you show it to him. Two good looking brothers that carried on to later life, certainly in Col's case. Did that photo go onto the board that your children made after Col passed on?
ReplyDeleteWhat a good looking young man!
ReplyDeleteYes good looking young men and I hope that both continued with such great heads of hair!
ReplyDeleteMemories are made of this Sue
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photo! The scouting program is so good for young people. It is sad there is a shortage of leaders. My daughter-in-law was a Boy Scout leader for many years and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI've been a leader for over 20 years, and would like to reduce my hours but there's no one coming along to replace me so...no, a 70 y.o. leader can't do what she used to but I guess I'm better than no one...
ReplyDeleteLovely to have that long ago glimpse of the one you love.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo. I can see Colin in J. I loved being Brown Owl when I was in Benghazi. Even today I think of the skills I learnt at Brownies and Guides. Sending you are best wishes
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo and it brought back such lovely memories!
ReplyDeleteA lovely photo Sue. You realise how precious all photos are later in life. xx
ReplyDeleteI was a Scout leader for over 30 years, I've run all sections at one time or another and have been a GSL. I finished 10 years ago as I'd had enough. My husband took over as GSL and he's been Scouting for over 45 years. Recruiting new leaders is an ongoing problem!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant photograph and memory. I bet that surprised your Brother in Law when it popped up on Facebook.
