The library van isn't round 'til the end of the month (there will be several books, about 15 I reckon, to collect - all being well) and I've run out of library books so as I was taking a heap back to Stowmarket library to get them out of the way and back into circulation I had a quick peruse of the crime shelves.
Found three I knew I'd not read. Should keep me going for a bit longer then I'll revert to my own shelves.
Sometimes crime novels written by someone well known (Richard Osman for one!) are a bit of a let down but this below was a really good story. This was recommended by someone in Blogland -so thank you to whoever that was.
Adam Green is a trainee Barrister, and his first big case is to assist in the defence of a man who, it's assumed, has murdered a popular hero policeman. The evidence is clear but maybe Jimmy Knight isn't the only person who could have poisoned Grant Clivedon right in the heart of the Old Bailey.
This is a well written story set in the barristers chambers and in court which makes it different to most crime fiction.
The second book about Adam Green is out next month, the library have it on order, but I can't reserve it yet as I'm up to my maximum number of reservations.
I've had to give up reading 'The Hidden Years' by Rachel Hore - it's a good story, with two timelines but made me cry far too much for my liking!
Back Soon

I must thank you for your recommendation a few months ago of books by Rory Clements. Just finished Corpus and the second is on order. An excellent read. Very well written and about a period that really interests me. The next few weeks I’ll be alternating between him and Elly Griffiths!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Richard Osman’s books - they were light and very easy reading and with characters you could warm to. The plots were daft but funny. We all have different tastes, even within the same genre!

Glad you are enjoying Rory Clements - you have several more to enjoy.
DeleteI was a bit disappointed with the first Rob Rinder book but enjoyed the second one much more. I read it a few months back, thanks to NetGalley. You can request books before they are published, just need to write, and post, a review. Electronic books only but that is my preference anyway.
ReplyDeleteHas to be a real book to hold and read for me!
DeleteI shall have a wait for the 2nd but it will get to me eventuall
I hadn't realised Rob Rinder had written a book. Good tip Thanks
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
I enjoyed it a lot.
DeleteJust finished The Piano Tuner set in 1880s Burma during English occupation. It was a page turner so looking for another by Daniel Mason.
ReplyDeleteNot an author I know,
DeleteI do like reading a book written by someone who was in the field of the subject of the book, Rob Rinder for example, it's so much better than one by someone who has done token research and gets facts wrong. You should never read a book that makes you cry, unless of course they are happy tears.
ReplyDeleteHe ought to know what he's writing about - and it certainly seemed so
DeleteOh, I checked and those authors are not at my library. I'm reading a book by Kristin Hannah titled "The Women". It was highly recommended by the friend who lent it to me. It's about nurses in the Vietnam War and so I know it's going to be sad but it is interesting, too.
ReplyDeleteThat book will arrive for me on the next mobile library visit - hopefully
DeleteOooh, someone gave me The Trial for my birthday last week. I shall read it sooner rather than later.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it, I did
DeleteI really enjoyed The Trial and it was the first Rob Rinder book I had read. Catriona
ReplyDeleteHis previous books have been non-fiction. I'm looking forward to the second in this new series
DeleteYour visit to the library was fruitful. I need to go to our library as Doris Kearns Goodwin (DKG) (author/presidential historian) has a new book, "An Unfinished Love Story." A Concord, MA resident (previously) now Boston. Her late husband kept records of his work with American presidents and with Doris they started a book together. He died and DKG finished the book. YouTube has some interesting clips with DKG.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you found more reading material. Nothing makes me sadder than to run out of books to read.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Glad you managed to borrow some more reading material. I have a long way to go before I have to borrow from the library lol. Even though I got rid of six big boxes of books I still have loads left.
ReplyDeleteI want to share here on how Mr Pedro granted me a loan of £820,000.00 to expand my business at the rate of 2% annual return, Iam so grateful and I think I should share it here. here his email address: cf-loans@outlook.com / WhatsApp +393510140339 if anyone here is looking for an affordable loan rate.
