I shall stroll up the road today to cast my vote in the General Election for a political party that have promised much but probably won't be able to achieve anything!
And as all of them have done that it's no help to you guessing who I'll vote for!
I finally got information through the letter box from all the other Parties standing, but the Green Party have certainly outdone the rest for pieces of paper - how very ironic.
So, will our new Waveney Valley constituency really put a Green Party MP into the Houses of Parliament or will tradition win out and the area remain blue Conservative? Or will we be one of the 'Huge swings to Labour' seats?
The two bits of 'propaganda' through the letter box yesterday completely contradict each other so we will have to wait and see.........
I hope everyone will go and vote, everyone should vote - it's your right and we don't have many rights left, and if you don't, you can't moan about the result.
Summer of Sport yesterday was cold and chilly and wet but Emma won through - well done that girl. Lots more Brits playing at Wimbledon today including several pairs in the Men's Doubles - much more interesting than election results! (can't believe that once, when I was very much younger, I stayed awake half the night listening to results coming in - mad)
Back Tomorrow........... when we'll know who we are to be governed by for the next 5 years.

Never in my life have I been a wavering voter - I knew the party I supported and that was it. Now - hell's teefs - they're all lieing barstewards from what I can see and whichever I vote for is likely to be the wrong choice!

DeleteI hope there will be a good turnout of voters, but shan't be surprised if it's very low. Apathy is bad for the nation.

My vote has been cast, I called first thing as I needed to pick up a prescription from the pharmacy at the doctors surgery and the scout hut polling station is immediately across the road. Two birds with one stone and all that!!
ReplyDeleteYesterday we had leaflets from ALL the parties through the letterbox and they are all now residing in the paper recycling bin. Empty promises and wasted paper.
Polling Station here is opposite the fish and chip shop and on a Thursday it's pensioners discount lunch time meal - So guess what I did!

In the olden days, when I first voted, those of us in the colonies had to be 21! I was interested in politics then and registered to vote on my 21st birthday. Voted in my first election in 1968.
DeleteOur granddaughter voted at 7 30 this morning, her first in a general election, she is interested in politics. I did smile at Bovey Belle's comment but as I used to say to our children, women died so we could have the vote so I voted early too.

DeleteWe have postal votes as we were away once during an election and I applied then. I must have ticked the box for always and so we have had postal votes ever since. At least you can be thankful you don’t have double elections as we have in a devolved country. Catriona

DeleteLuckily we are a bit off the beaten track for post. We have had one piece from each party and no visitations. I shall be indulging in tactical voting. I don't have much faith in any of them but, our present MP has been useless, so I will be trying to make sure my vote counts to get rid of them.

ReplyDeleteThe stuff that came through the letterbox was a complete waste of resources in my opinion, I didn't read any of it.
As you say tomorrow we'll know our fate and undoubtedly there'll be a very short honeymoon period for the winners then real life will continue again......

DeleteThe local Conservative MP here who has always been conspicuous by his absence, and is mainly known for not answering emails (and for being very rude live on TV last year to the very nice local BBC news presenter who was interviewing him) actually knocked on our door a couple of days ago. It was a good job my husband answered the door, as I might have been tempted to slam it in his face. I'm not a fan of his.

DeleteI do love the irony of the Greens using more paper! At least your election looks promising. It's July 4 here and I'm afraid we're on a course to lose the independence to gained so long ago.
ReplyDeleteWe began getting leaflets from the Green Party months ago, before the election was called due to it being a new constituency. Then every other week afterwards!
DeleteVoted after work…and I may just be asking some questions of whoever becomes our MP…never have before, however the lot in at the moment managed to decide to award themselves a pay rise in time for April, however the NHS must wait…oh and now inflation has apparently come down so may the amount awarded.

Deletejust watched the first declaration of a long night to come. quite shocked that the duly elected member launched into her speech without a word of thanks for the Returning Officer or any of the hard working people who have grafted so hard at the coal face in the counting or polling stations. Hmmmm . . .
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in our late teens/twenties we would have a party on election night to listen to the results. Always baked potatoes in the oven to cook while the results dribbled in. It must have taken much longer than it does today. Looking back I'm glad we were engaged in it at a relatively young age. Now I'm completely jaded.
ReplyDeleteWe will vote in November and the lead up continues to be a roller coaster of events. I will be voting based on which one is likely to do the least damage.
