So Which Prediction Was Correct? + Summer of Sport

So which of the bits of paper through the door earlier in the week was right? A new constituency  so nothing to compare with last time.

The Labour prediction  for here was Way out! and the Greens did much better than they predicted for themselves - getting over 20,000 votes compared to Conservatives 14,000+. Labour came in 4th behind the Reform Party. So we have a Green MP, one of 4 who will be sitting opposite the Labour Party.
My prediction is, that he needs to  speak up for the area really well, or it will be a one-off vote.

Enough of all that!

Yesterday I went shopping good and early to make the most of so many British men and women playing at Wimbledon. The first match was a girl I'd not heard of before this year -  Yuriko Miyazaki - Japanese /English. She lost rather quickly. Then I thought I ought to catch yesterdays Tour highlights as everyone was raving about Mark Cavendish and his new record number of stage wins.
The handy thing about watching Wimbledon on iplayer is you can press a button to 'watch from the start' so after the Tour highlights I went back to the beginning of the Katy Boulter/Harriet Dart match. Surprise that Harriet won but it was a good game.
The Cam Norrie v Jack Draper match was a bit one sided which was a bit sad to see, but Cam played much better than he has done for a while.
Then there was the emotional Andy and Jamie Murray doubles. They lost in straight sets but it was the farewell to Andy afterwards that had everyone in tears!

Today is a new day!
Looking very dull outside - rain forecast for later, I need to get the raspberries picked before that happens.........much more important that the shenanigans that will be going on in Westminster.

Back Soon
Sue

  1. I notice that like our Tory bloke (who did get back in) yours had his election leaflets printed miles away. Much for "supporting local businesses". I hope your Green MP does serve the constituency well.

    1. That top paper is Greens and yes printed up north - not a good support for local printers.
Goodness knows what difference it will make having a Green MP - we shall see

  2. Pouring with rain here. What a good job it was sunny yesterday to encourage a decent turnout. I really enjoyed looking at all the pictures of dogs (also a cat and a horse) at polling stations.
Here, the Lib Dems have regained the seat they held for years but lost in 2015.

    1. Still a low turn out compared to some years despite the sun

  3. I forgot to post my ballot so took it along to the polling station while on my way to get my hair cut. Did not have to provide ID but had to fill in a declaration form! Not happened before.
Sir Andy's farewell had me in floods, and they brought Sue Barker out of retirement too for the occasion. End of an era.

  5. Interesting that your Green candidate did so much better than the Conservative one. Here we are Labour yet again, they seem to have been very popular in our small town for quite a while. It will be interesting to see how a Labour government changes things for us in our final year of business before retirement.

    1. It's a big shock to see so many Labour MPs in East Anglia after years of always being Conservative. Doubt we will see many changes - there isn't the money to do much

  7. We've had a change of MP, too. I wish Labour hadn't got quite such a large majority as it will make life harder for them - too many potential schisms. Anyway, it's all done now and I thought the speeches from outgoing Sunak and incoming Starmer were gracious and gentlemanly.

    1. Some real 'characters' in the house of parliament now - should make things a bit more interesting

  9. With elections done, the dust will settle and bring a new era. I look forward to US elections. We've got disappointing SCJ (Supreme Court Justice) decisions regarding candidate DT and earlier convictions. He smiles and the rest of us weep.

    1. The Supreme court ruling that presidents can't be prosecuted for anything to do with being president is frightening. It means in effect that a president can't be prosecuted for killing an opponent!

  10. Shenanigans indeed - good word that for how I feel about the last few days - and after all the excitement in sport and politics (and the late night results too) I think just need a good lie down!

  11. Greens, eh? That should be interesting. I hope he is able to make a difference.
Our neck of the world has been Conservative for centuries. Until now when the Lib Dem candidate got in. xx

  12. So glad Cavendish won. He's had some bumpy times in the past so well done! I love the tour but it's not on any of our channels except for highlights so that's what I get!
