The Longlist for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing was released on Friday. It's the only book prize I like to look at and most years I've already read some of them.
This year I've not read a single one - but I have got Bothy on order from the library and will get around to the Garden Against Time by Olivia Laing sometime as she lives in Suffolk.
More information about the 2024 Longlist is HERE . If you like different sorts of nature writing this is a good place to find out more about some that have been popular this year.
You'll be going bothy hunting in the Highlands for your next holiday then. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI very much doubt it!
DeleteLike you I've read and enjoyed many Wainwright Prize books in the past, but haven't read any of these. Though I'm sure I will soon! Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI don't seem to read as many countryside writing as I once did and far fewer non fiction. But much more crime!
DeleteI haven't read any of these. Bothy sounds interesting, thank goodness you got your order in at the library before this list was announced, everyone will want to read it now.
ReplyDeleteI'm 18th out of 19 so a bit of a wait
DeleteThere's never any shortage of books to read, just a lack of hours in the day. Lovely list of books and I looked at the link - thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery Very true
DeleteHow much I agree with jabblog!
ReplyDeleteI have collected a lot of books in my library that I want to probably read, but.. But the list is interesting and there is always room for new books!!
I have so many books waiting for me to read here yet I still keep requesting books from the library!
DeleteThanks for this-I have taken a screenshot to see if my library has any of the books. Catriona
ReplyDeleteSome sound a bit dull but I'll give one or two a go
DeleteThese days there should be a category for best artistic book cover.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the covers are much better than the insides!
DeleteJust had a quick look and my local library at home has several on the shelves and several on order. Guess what I’ll be doing when we get home in a couple of months time.
ReplyDeleteI hope some make good reading
DeleteI’m looking forward to seeing what my library has. That was a timely prompt. We are in summer here, but the rain we have had is incredible, many days with rain, and my tomatoes the worst they have ever been. Is this global warming? Jean in Winnipeg
ReplyDeleteThe only things that are good in my garden are raspberries, tomatoes are really poor and aubergines even worse.
DeleteEngland seems to do more book prizes than the USA.
ReplyDeleteThat seems unlikely given the number of authors there
DeleteThese all look promising, I'll jot them down and order some from the library. Agree with you about nature writing - occasionally the cover is more interesting than the content 😉😀
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
The Rural one looked interesting until I read about it then it just seemed to be exactly about life growing up in Suffolk!
DeleteAward winning or best seller list is generally reliable and provides some good reads. With the high heat weather, reading and indoor projects are preferred.
ReplyDeleteI usually avoid looking at all the fiction prizes - so many different ones
DeleteI bought 'Local' on Friday - it was 99p on KIndle....

Let us know if it's any good
DeleteI'm more of a mystery book lover myself, Sue!
ReplyDeleteThere looks to be a few good books on that list. Lots of nature books.
ReplyDeleteBTW I love the stained glass window header photo. Really beautiful
