Wainwright Book Prize 2024

The Longlist for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing was released on Friday. It's the only book prize I like to look at and most years I've already read some of them.

This year I've not read a single one - but I have got Bothy on order from the library and will get around to the Garden Against Time by Olivia Laing sometime as she lives in Suffolk.

More information about the 2024 Longlist is HERE . If you like different sorts of nature writing this is a good place to find out more about some that have been popular this year.

  2. Like you I've read and enjoyed many Wainwright Prize books in the past, but haven't read any of these. Though I'm sure I will soon! Happy reading.

    1. I don't seem to read as many countryside writing as I once did and far fewer non fiction. But much more crime!

  3. I haven't read any of these. Bothy sounds interesting, thank goodness you got your order in at the library before this list was announced, everyone will want to read it now.

  4. There's never any shortage of books to read, just a lack of hours in the day. Lovely list of books and I looked at the link - thank you.

  8. Just had a quick look and my local library at home has several on the shelves and several on order. Guess what I’ll be doing when we get home in a couple of months time.

  9. I’m looking forward to seeing what my library has. That was a timely prompt. We are in summer here, but the rain we have had is incredible, many days with rain, and my tomatoes the worst they have ever been. Is this global warming? Jean in Winnipeg

    1. The only things that are good in my garden are raspberries, tomatoes are really poor and aubergines even worse.

  10. England seems to do more book prizes than the USA.

    1. That seems unlikely given the number of authors there

  11. These all look promising, I'll jot them down and order some from the library. Agree with you about nature writing - occasionally the cover is more interesting than the content 😉😀

    1. The Rural one looked interesting until I read about it then it just seemed to be exactly about life growing up in Suffolk!

  12. Award winning or best seller list is generally reliable and provides some good reads. With the high heat weather, reading and indoor projects are preferred.
