I photocopied these pages from a library book (Christine Iverson - Home Apothecary) several years ago and it's been folded inside one of my books ever since. I was reminded of it when Ali @ Ali Lives Well on Less mixed up her own version a couple of weeks ago.
I had some organic cider vinegar in the cupboard but not 800ml, so used what I had which was about 500ml and I knew I wouldn't find fresh horseradish or turmeric anywhere but I bought a lemon and a piece of ginger and used what was in the cupboards to make this.
To the chopped lemon and ginger and the vinegar I added chopped onion, dried chillies, chopped garlic from a jar and thought I'd chuck in some powdered turmeric for luck (which might not have been a good idea - depends if I can filter it out at the end).
I will definitely add honey and warm water when I take it through the winter.
It might be kill or cure!
I wonder what it smells like?
ReplyDeleteLethal!
DeleteIt certainly sounds as though it might have quite a kick!
ReplyDeleteShould scare winter colds away
DeleteI'm about to dig up my horseradish, a very easy root to grow, I will grate it and pop it in the freezer, only hubby uses it.
ReplyDeleteI think Horseradish sauce is a man thing!
DeleteCream of horseradish in smoked haddock fish cakes is gorgeous! J’nan
DeleteWell it looks colourful so hopefully it will do you good! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI think it will frighten away any cold I might get!
DeleteI love this sort of thing, and I don't think we should be too self effacing about our home remedies. Good simple ingredients instead of a load of chemicals.
ReplyDeleteExcellent.
Alison in Wales x
Just hope it does some good!
DeleteSounds like it'll either kill you or cure you! Hopefully the latter, haha
ReplyDeleteYou'll know if I have a cold!
DeleteIt should certainly kill or cure - if it doesn't explode first!
ReplyDeleteOh heck, don't say that!
DeleteI generally like all natural remedies and am willing to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteCan you describe the taste?
A friend drinks organic apple cider vinegar with warm water every morning and she feels it keeps her healthy. The vinegar alone is harsh.
It has to 'brew' for 4 weeks then strained and kept in fridge then I'll let you know. I know some people who also have some cider vinegar every day - not sure if they get colds
DeleteI did not get past the title without thinking of the 60s record ' Love Lotion No 9' Sorry 😏
ReplyDeleteThat Elixir sounds so potent that I think a germ would have to be very hardy to survive it!!
