December 16th and The Lights in the Night

Is it a low flying UFO??

No

Just some Christmas lights that I can see from the bedroom window. They run along the front of a garage by a house at the end of another lane across the fields from us. I don't think anyone else can see them except me! even the people who live there can only see them if they come out of their house and stand in front of the garage.
Certainly not the best photo of Christmas lights you will see this year!

Meanwhile, here are this years minimal Christmas decorations, apart from the mantel-shelf. I could fetch the big tree out from under the stairs but really can't be bothered this year.

BTW the advent calendar is good, it has things relating to the doors and windows opened, upstairs they are cooking, cleaning and eating and  under the house on the ground floor is someone milking a cow and some chickens also a cat cleaning itself, harking back to when animals lived under the living quarters which helped to warm the upper floors in winter.

Thank you for all the comments yesterday. Sorry I didn't get to reply properly.
I'll pass on all the good wishes to Colin. Hopefully the chemo effects will wear off soon. He's now having high energy juice drinks which go down better than the milk shakes. He is taking anti sickness tablets and has a mouthwash and they are giving him oramorph ( nasty stuff) to help with the pain. Just a case of waiting it out I think.
I think the double issue Christmas Radio Times falling to pieces is as much a tradition as buying it!

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  2. A light show just for you:) The advent calendar is a proper one. I can’t remember when chocolate ones flooded the market. I still remember the thrill of opening each window as a child. The wooden blocks are lovely.

  3. Love the advent calendar. Hope Col feels better soon. I didn't feel very Christmassy to start and putting the tree together is a chore, so hubby did it for me this year. But I'm really in the swing of it now.

  4. It's the case with all outdoor lights though, you can't realy see them yourself. That's why I make the point of going outside to look at mine. All that effort, I want to appreciate it! It's nice that you get to see them :O)

I love your Christmas decorations. Simple but effective. What are you doing on Christmas Day? You've probably said already, but I can't recall. xx

    1. Someone up the road has red sparkly lights on the hedge, wondered what was happening for a minute.
I shall let you know after Xmas day

  5. We have outdoor lights around the support to our front porch canopy, as we use the side conservatory doors to come into and leave the house we walk past the lights every time we go out, they make me smile each and every time I pass so festive. During the day it still looks festive as we have encircled the posts with tinsel too :-)

    I love your advent calender.

  6. Lovely to see the lights across the field. I don't have anything on the outside of my house but I think if I had the expertise and someone to do for me it it would look rather good, in a subtle way.

  7. I think your Christmas decorations are very pretty and no wonder you don't feel like doing any more this year. Nice of your neighbours to put lights up just for you.

  8. Sue, if it doesn't fall apart even before it starts, then it's not a genuine Christmas issue of the Radio Times! Just thank goodness today we can cease from using the RT with the truly awful photo of Dr Who (Peter Capaldi) on the front. I'm not a Dr Who fan, I remember in the early 1960s when it started, never liked it, and I reckon it must account for more covers on the RT than any other programme.
I can't stand blue Christmas lights - when I was young the only blue lights were those over the police station!

  9. Hi Sue... I'm Jan. Nice to meet you.
    Your Christmas decor is lovely.
I am sorry to learn about Colin. My prayers are with you both. It is wonderful that your neighbors have outside lights that you can enjoy. I am a big believer that light should always be in our lives, even if it is one lone candle~Jan

  10. I'm glad to read that Col's treatment is going well, in spite of the uncomfortable side effects. Your advent calendar sounds interesting.

  11. I know it's no consolation, you still have to look at those lights, but I have a very similar situation here, exacerbated by missing trees this year!
