July Library Book Photo

A lovely haul of requested books had arrived for me, plenty to keep me busy over the next 4 weeks

Crime written in the past and re-published, new crime but set in the past and  there are several non-fiction which I hope I can concentrate on including two books about books(and reading) which is a favourite genre of mine. There are also a couple of ordinary fiction that I've seen mentioned on blogs and I found the library had a few of the Furrowed Middlebrow publications in stock but the only one I hadn't read was "A Winter Away" by Elizabeth Fair.
So no copy of " The Stopping Places" as mentioned on the Felixstowe Book Festival Post, I shall be picking that up in August.

We had an even hotter day yesterday but a lot of cloud and more humidity, several times it threatened rain but nothing appeared. Instead it was out with the watering can in the evening as usual to do the greenhouse crops, beans and patio pots. One thing that is loving this heat in the greenhouse are the aubergines, there are already some 3 inches long and so many have set this year compared to last year. I shall make up batches of aubergine and tomato pasta sauce to freeze for winter.........one of my favourites.

Thank you for comments and re-assurance yesterday.  I hate forgetting what I'm supposed to be doing but hopefully the fog of grief(lovely description Mary) will clear so I can get more done without wandering about in a blur or spending more time than I want fiddling online.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. Things will improve the fog will lift and you will find a new stability in your life. Like all things new it is a bit disconcerting to start with.

  2. Do you ever go in to a main library anywhere? I am not sure of your nearest "big" library but I spend one morning or afternoon a week in Norwich library and it passes an enjoyable time and I sometimes go with a plan of a topic to research, sometimes not. The mobile library comes to the end of my road too but I would miss going into the library itself. After retiring and then being abandoned and Peter's mental illness I have got into the habit of having a plan for each day. It helps. I do spend quite a lot of time on the computer but that is a source of friendship and occupation too.

    1. If I lived anywhere near the lovely Norwich library I could spend a morning there too! But the nearest to me is Debenham and that's teeny and only open a few hours a week. Eye next closest and not much bigger.Stowmarket is medium sized but I go there for shopping so want to get home. Ipswich would be OK it's not exactly huge but a bit of a trek. Sunday evenings are my problem at the moment

    2. Sunday evenings, are usually watching something on tv, getting a light tea or supper, and an early night with a book.

    3. I too have a plan for every day and also make sure that I have something special in the diary to look forward to maybe once or twice a month. Sundays are difficult as friends and family are busy and I don't want to intrude, so I either make more of a fuss about cooking a special meal or I get a takeaway and I watch a dvd I've hired from the library on the Friday - I'm busy catching up on all the films I missed that my late partner didn't want to watch.

  3. That's certainly a good haul of books Sue. I used to get through so many books in a month but now my work pattern has changed and I spend less time travelling I am only really get an hour a day so a book can now last me a month on it's own. There are times when there just isn't enough time in the week with working, sorting out home life and the garden.

I still think you're doing amazingly well and I'm sure the fog will start to lift a little soon.

  4. Lovely haul of books as always, Sue. I bought on about Glasgow and intend to investigate the 111 places mentioned once the weather is cooler.

  6. It will be clearer. Not only are you dealing with grief and changes and so many things to do and decisions to make, you are also having to do what two people used to do - double the load. No wonder the brain sifts and discards - at the moment there's overload going on.

When I start something off, I set my timer. When it goes off, I know there's something I have to remember to do. It's been a lifesaver at times. You can get timers that go round your neck - so useful.

  7. I think of you Sue in lots of days and you are doing so well. It might help you to do something completely different on Sundays e.g. A new hobby.
I miss not reading because I had a stroke a few weeks ago. Our mobile library has closed anyway and it will be a bus ride to go when I am better.

    Love Sue.

  8. I also enjoy the genre of books on reading/writing. A couple of US authors/titles include Will Schwalbe (Books for Living) and Pat Conroy (My Reading Life). 84 Charing Cross Road written by Helen Hanff around 1970 might be one you would enjoy, if you haven't already read it.

    1. I hadn't heard of the US titles , will see if the library has them. I've read and enjoyed 84 Charing cross road and watched the TV adaptation of it which was good

  9. Hi Sue, those books will keep you going for a while.
I have just started reading fiction again which for years I couldn't really get into. I left a comment on the 19th June post, not sure whether you saw it.

  10. Quite a stack of books. Do you get to keep them for longer than 3 weeks? That's the limit here if they are popular. Otherwise they are renewed automatically for another 3 weeks. I am currently reading a mystery set in 1920s Bombay. Title is something like Widows of Malabar Hill. DOn't quote me. I don't have the book in front of me and just started it last night.

    1. The library van comes every four weeks, but we can renew online for longer as long as no one wants it

  14. What a lovely selection of reading material.

I could not find any eggplant this year so we are doing without.... I know I am going to miss them. Next year I am thinking I will start seeds indoors.

    God bless.
