First Saturday in September and the last boot sale of the season at a venue I hadn't been to since May 2017 so a trip east to have a look.
Wood number puzzle for a grandchild £1, pegs 50p. Coffee Syrups - for a Christmas present £1 and some baby sweetcorn to grow next year 50p.
Then the regular local small boot sale, which was bigger than recent Sundays and a few more finds
and all 50p each. Brand new lampshade for my newly painted bedroom - I chucked the one that I had as it was a random purple thing that came here with a lamp- which broke in the move. A little brown jug for the autumn mantle shelf, tunic top for winter wearing at home and another book to save for the Advent book parcels. Finally a book for my WWII Home Front collection and I'm glad I carry a list of my collection in my bag because I thought I had a copy of this but turned out I hadn't.
Useful finds I think, without spending a fortune on new from a shop. Still avoiding new whenever possible - Let someone else pay full price is my motto!
Back Tomorrow
Sue
I particularly love the little brown jug. Lovely and rustic (in the photo at least!)
ReplyDeleteI know 'First Snow'. It was in my book trolley at schools and the illustrations are wonderful.
xx
It's a lovely book that I hadn't come across before
DeleteYou did do well Sue. I can't trust my memory any more either, so I have lots of lists on my phone. They make all the difference and, unlike random notes on pieces of scrap paper, I know where to find them! I've done something very clever today! We store "stuff" in the cupboard under the stairs and it's like the Black Hole of Calcutta. We'd lost the portacot and were starting to panic (it's needed tomorrow) until I used the light on my phone and Lo and hold, there it was! So I took myself off and bought a cheap LED, battery-powered light, and stuck it up using strong double-sided tape! Much easier than drilling holes, and all up cost less than £7. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I need to find out where I can do notes on my phone - haven't a clue!
DeleteI agree with you about letting other people buy new. As long as one is prepared to wait, what is needed nearly always turns up.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed by the things that are discarded at our local tip. (Sorry that should read “Amenity Site”)!
There is a covered area where one can browse and I’ve found wonderful things at times.
It's not unusual to see “reserved” on furniture while someone goes off to find a vehicle to transport the spoils! Sue
I love people who change the things in their house regularly and then sell it at a car boot!
DeleteSo do I!
DeleteGreat haul, I must admit I do miss the car boot sales since our move here. First Snow is a firm favourite of our Grand children.
ReplyDeleteI reckon the sea and your views make up for lack of car boots.....maybe!
DeleteI love the little brown jug I was one very similar my Nan had (mind to look for it). We don't have any car boots in our village but there is a Scout jumble sale in a few weeks soon. We have beautiful blue sky's at the moment.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
Love

I do miss jumble sales - there are so few nowadays
DeleteAs I am always banging on about, the country needs the rich for the good of the economy.
ReplyDeleteI love all the people who buy new and then take it to a carboot sale a year later!
DeleteGreat finds and the tunic top is just my style! The advent book is one I haven’t seen and that will be enjoyed by all the grandchildren I’m sure. Housework day for me I thnink today.
ReplyDeleteThe top will be a good layer for winter.
DeleteBrilliant finds, especially the lampshade. I do love it when something you really need shows up just at the right time ... and at the right price :-)
ReplyDeleteThe lampshade wasn't such a good find after all as I had to stick the covering together at the join!
DeleteSome useful finds there Sue. Esp. the WWII book. I must type up the crime novel authors I am following and note down the books of theirs I haven't read yet.
ReplyDeleteMy list is well thumbed and falling to bits, I need to re write it and I need more lists of books I want to read too
DeleteThat Home Front book looks interesting! You always seem to find the most interesting treasures!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good book, I read it from the library ages ago and now |I can read it again
DeleteSome great bargains, I love going to the car boots, its the thrill of not knowing what you will come home with, I love hunting for a bargain.
ReplyDeleteI haven't found anything wildly exciting this year but even small finds save money on new
DeleteI really like wooden puzzles and toys for children. I think it's from a colour point of view. The overly bright primary colours of plastic toys make my brain hurt at times. Just been reading your post about the train. I'd have started a petition to make sure they tooted the horn, I love the sound of a steam train. Hope all is well with you. xx
ReplyDeleteThe lady who was here before us was really against the railway museum as were many other people. We couldn't understand why as it's only a small visitor attraction - not dozens of cars driving through the village every day!
DeleteYou got some lovely bargains. The tunic top is lovely.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Perfectly good enough for home wearing and warm too
DeleteAll nice things, my favorite is the brown jug. I hope you show it to us on your mantle. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's there ready for a photo!
DeleteLove that Little Brown Jug (there's a song in there somewhere) . I do admire the way you build up your collections of books.
ReplyDeleteI'll sing it and you can play it on the Ukelele!
DeleteYou always find good and useful buys! Smart to carry a list of books you have in your purse.
ReplyDeleteGood finds at boot sales. I'm going to the coast this weekend and pop into a thrift store. Sometimes better there than here. I'm slowly getting Christmas gifts too at lower prices too..shop sales is my motto! Happy week!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have car boot sales here but I drop in to the thrift stores every week, sometimes oftener; most of my clothes come from there and I've started buying books there as well - 30% off on Tuesdays (senior day, and seniors only need to be 55!) It's good for my purse and it's good for the environment.
ReplyDeleteI've started carrying a list of books I'm looking for as well. It's such a help.
I love bargains and I can’t imagine paying the inflated full price. You got some nice things at the sale.
ReplyDeleteLovely haul of goodies.
ReplyDeleteNotes on your phone are life savers, just go to the page on your phone that has your clock, calender etc. And you should see a symbol that says notes, open that and write and add then save.
If you can't figure it out....just write your list on paper and take a photo with your phone camera. 😊😊😊
