50p and Free

I popped out to the big car-boot sale on Saturday morning , but it's getting quieter and smaller now with only a few weeks left before they finish for winter.
I found nothing except for these Christmas Crackers, 7 nice large ones for 50p, not in a box so slightly squashed  but that was soon sorted. Before Christmas last year I got a box of 12 crackers for £1 from a charity shop and used 4 to decorate the Christmas Hampers, the rest we didn't use because of Col being too ill to have people here. So with the 8 left and these 7 I now have enough for Christmas day.
After the boot sale I called in at Tesco for some fruit for me and an orange and lemon for the cranberry mincemeat plus diesel but Tesco petrol station had about 1,000 people queueing  so I decided to call in at the Co-op garage on the way home instead. I pulled in without noticing the pumps weren't lit up and before I could get out the lady came over to say sorry they had some technical problems and none of the pumps were working but to make up for the inconvenience they were giving away free sandwiches!
Never pass over a free lunch is what I say!

Thank you for the comments about the 5th of November on yesterdays post.

Back Tomorrow

  3. The crackers look great. They are always something I resent spending money on, yet I still do. X

  4. Good old Co-op. I hope they weather the retail storm. I can remember childhood days when the Co-op department store took up both sides of the street in Ipswich with connecting first floor walkway between adjacent buildings. It was the largest store around by far, you could buy anything/everything there and you also got your divi (dividend)! x

    1. It was a huge shop, but It's been standing empty and then used as a charity shop for about the last 10 years! It's going to be knocked down and the last I heard was there was to be a school built on the site - which seems a strange place for a school. Sadie at Notes from an ordinary life might know more as she lives in Ipswich

  5. Please you found some crackers. I remember my mum and nan always shopped at the Co-op for everything and the divi came in handy at Christmas, my children's pram came from the Co-op in the good old days.

    1. All the big East of England Co-op department stores were closed about 5 0r 10 years ago. So now there are just food, funeral, opticians, travel agents and a few garages left - sad

  6. Is gasoline in short supply there? Having crackers at Christmas is a tradition that really didn't catch on over here.

  7. We had some in the loft for ages - we used them last year and surprise, they still had a loud bang.
I bet that free sandwich was tasty!

  8. Free lunch was a bonus, as long as your weren´t too low on fuel. Great result for the crackers, I usually get cheaper ones and doctor them with a little personal gift for each person, something my Mum always did, but Grandma had a huge cracker that she would fill and you could put your arm in and choose a pressie xcx

    1. I was Ok for fuel - luckily and try not to run low just in case.

Used to make my own crackers but it was getting harder and more expensive to find useful things to fit in them so I gave up and just find cheap crackers so we do the snap, hat and joke.

  9. What a cracker of a bargain....lol.
I think we have enough in storage from last year so shouldn't need to buy any.

  11. Great deal on the crackers, and an even better one on the sandwich. Free food, hard to go wrong.

I always wanted to do crackers, probably because we never had them as kids. But they cost so much, and I don't really like loud noises. lol

  13. I love Christmas crackers! I bought my first package in London on my first trip there - along with Christmas cards. I've continued to buy Christmas/holiday cards when I travel - a nice remembrance of where I've been and easy to pack. I get a lot of them at museum gift shops. Christmas crackers are virtually unheard of here in Western US. I get them and have them when there are guests. I also took packages home when I visited my family (years ago) for the holidays. For me they just mean Christmas. I am always surprised when people are reluctant to 'do' them - they are just fun and a good way to have a little something to chat about if people don't know each other. I saw plans to make them in Pinterest but don't think I'll go that far. I found a box in a closet that is the "so that was where xxxx was" closet.
