Village Art

There was an Art and Photography Exhibition going on in Old Newton village school which is just across the road

from the Flower Festival in Old Newton church..............yesterdays post.

(With the village school being over a mile from the village, it's absolute chaos here at school start and finish times - almost everyone drives their children to school, then they all park on the  narrow road with lots of bends. Much quieter on a Sunday)

Just a small Art Show.

These two are felted textile art.......... £65 each

I liked this one that had sold, pen and ink  - Washing Day. £20

Flowers in Linocut - £85 each

This was BIG , very 'in your face'. 'Shelley Summer' . Oils £500

I'm enjoying my visits to art exhibitions.

Back Tomorrow

  1. I dearly love old village schools - any chance of a few more photos of the building (outside of school times, of course). That arework is rather appealing too. I love the felted art.

    1. The design is like so many others in Suffolk, all built at much the same time. Victorian red brick.(with lots of new bits added on all round)

  2. One day I would quite like to spend time doing some flower lino cuts - I do like the ones in your photo. You can find some real talent at these village art shows - I discovered a friend of mine is an excellent artist by spotting a picture of his in a village exhibition!

  3. I liked the washing line best. It is lovely to see the work of talented local folk displayed like this. On subject of washing lines - it's been way too wet here to hang stuff outside. Hoping for a bit of June sunshine....

    1. You'll find when you move to Norfolk that there are more fine days for getting the washing dry outside!

  5. Is the school still in use? Ours unfortunately closed down several years ago but we still have a school in two nearby places that local children can attend and still feel local.

    1. Yes it's still a village primary school. It's not where son and DiL live so not where Willow will be at school

  6. For £20 I would be hard pressed not to buy that sweet pen and ink drawing myself. No wonder it was snapped up! You can often find a great deal in these local art exhibitions.

  8. We love the local artist shows and trails especially if coincide with an open garden or flower show. Have found in Norfolk these happen more in south and on Suffolk .borders. recently have been to a couple that are just over in Lincolnshire. Love domestic art subjects although not found of housework. Sierra.

  10. My favourites were the felted art and the pen and ink washing line. $20 was a bargain. The flower show from yesterday was lovely. An interesting theme which seems to have got the creative juices flowing.

  12. It is lovely to see a field without hedges round it. There were many like that in Lincolnshire when we lived there but have seen none since those days.

  13. What a lovely show! I love the pen and ink washing line best. It seems like you see many more felted art projects these day. There is a lot you can do with felted wool.

  14. I like the felted art textiles too, but would never have the skill to do it

  15. I like the Washing Day as well. I think it is my favourite.

    God bless.
