A Discovery

Down the road, not far from home is an apple tree. It's old and doesn't have many apples on it and those it does have aren't very edible.
I've walked past it many times and driven past it at least a couple of times every week and when I walked by last week I thought "what a shame this apple tree hasn't got mistletoe growing on it, I bet it's old enough". Then as I started to go by I noticed this...........

Not in a big ball at the top of the tree, where it usually grows but a small clump lower down round the back of the tree.

But why have I never noticed it before?

Next year I know where I'll be getting some from for indoors. Hope no one else has noticed it.

Many thanks for comments yesterday and hello and welcome to some more followers - hope you enjoy reading.

  2. Oh, wow, that's brilliant.
Maybe, in the spring, you could grab some berries (if there are any left) and see if you can get one started on one of your plants.

  3. I love seeing the mistletoe on the old trees.
I had to get up early today for I am going to Cambridge to see my 2 sisters and 2 nieces with my D and GD it's a halfway stop for us all.
It looks a nice day but it rained nearly all day yesterday.

  4. I never see any growing locally. But if I’m on the M5, I notice a lot of trees in the neighbouring fields have Mistletoe.

  5. There's a very tall tree by the road into Bournemouth that has a huge clump of mistletoe at the top, but I think it's inaccessible. Certainly the last 4 years nobody appears to have cut any at Christmas time

  6. What a lovely discovery! Isn't it interesting the things you find when you look a little closer?

  7. What a brilliant discovery. After picking a small bunch for yourself and family you could take some to the WI and sell little sprigs to raise a bit of money for funds or for this years charity.

  8. Handy. So in March you can pick some fresh, sticky berries, and smudge them on to your apple tree and see if they take.

  10. Our mind's opinions, can make us blind, at times.

You expected to see it, high up. So you didn't notice it, down lower.

    A lovely lesson, isn't it?

  13. Lovely! We found a clump in an oak on our land this year. We used to have some but that died out so we were glad to find more.
