First Jumble Sale of the Year

The first jumble sale of the year was well advertised - which caused problems as it was in a tiny village hall on some very narrow roads. Everywhere was completely jammed up and I ended up having to reverse quite a long way because someone coming the other way couldn't!
I thought about giving up and going home because by the time I'd gone backwards, turned round and found a space to park a long way up the road, the queue to get in was about 50 people.
But I stayed and everyone eventually squashed in and I fought to get to the tables of bric-a-brac and  then the book table and after all that..............I spent just £1 on 3 things

Never had an apple corer and slicer, so thought I'd try one. The 12 tiny nail varnishes will be for Christmas for the eldest of the 4 children in the lane. I always get them a little something and pretend that Santa delivered them to the wrong address - although the eldest two are way past believing!
And the book - Suffolk Author and Suffolk Illustrator - a book for children - curious to see what it was.

Next jumble sale in 2 weeks time I think...........a waste of time and money? probably, but they get me out of the house on a Saturday until the car boot season at Needham Market starts in March - a month later than usual...............I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!(And they are  finishing at the end of October instead of early December - very sad news for me)

  1. I hate reversing so I feel your pain!
The book looks rather lovely from the front cover. I imagine the inside illustrations will be just as attractive.

If they get you out of the house, then they're really not a waste of time, are they? As for money, it's hardly a large amount and you always have a purpose for your purchases. Do let us know how the apple corer works out!

  2. I love a good jumble sale, but they so rarely happen around here. You have reminded me to take a closer look at the ads in the local paper.

    1. There are more to go to now I'm back in Mid Suffolk - I keep looking out for posters where ever I go

  3. Me and the other driver would still be sat there looking at each other lol. Are they called jumble sales where you live? They seem to be called table top sale here and I always wonder if jumble is one of those words that's gone out of fashion or if it has connotations of 'rubbish'. Nothing is a waste of time or money if you get pleasure from doing it. xx

    1. Still a few jumble sales hanging on, also one or two table-top sales. Jumbles were the only way to find childrens clothes when my lot were little

  4. You are lucky to have jumble sales to go to. Years ago I could reckon on getting to quite a few but now, there's about one a year. Only the Scouts seem willing to make the effort these days.

  5. Pleased the jumble was worth it.
Our scouts have one this Saturday and my son is coming to visit to me that day so he is going to have a look round they don't have any jumble sales round his way. We usually have about 3 a year.

  7. I've not been to a jumble sale for a couple of years. Lots of table tops and car boots but not a jumble sale. You got some goon things there, I love my apple corer/slicer, it really speeds things up when you are preparing lots of apples for preserving or crumbles etc.

As for reversing I'm fine if I'm concentrating and can keep in a nice straight line, but once I get a wiggle going that's it, I totally lose what I'm doing. And I seem to spend so much time reversing for people who just sit there waiting for me to be the one to do it!!

    2. I can imagine the apple thingy will only work if its a good round apple with a straight core.... hopefully I'll get apples to use it on this autumn

    3. As long as you line it up with the stalk at the top, even if the apple is a bit skew whiff it will work as long as you're careful.

  9. My daughter's preschool taught the children to use those slicer/corers to prepare apples for the class snack. Small apples - great way for children to start taking care of their own meals.

  10. Goodness, that was a crowd! But as you said, it got you out of the house and you did find a few goodies. I have an apple slicer like that and it works pretty good although it sometimes takes a good hard push.

    1. It was in such a small village hall, I wondered how we would get in.

  11. We have an Apple slicer in my preschool. It is such a useful thing. Well done for reversing. I would have been really scared to do that.

    1. I'm OK reversing a car but never ever got the hang of reversing with a trailer on - Colin could do it anywhere and into small spaces easily

  13. There is nothing as much fun as finding a good bargain, and you always seem to find such interesting and useful items - which we love hearing about :)

  14. I haven't been to a jumble for years but when the kids were young we went every Saturday. We used to come home laden with goodies on our bikes, lol
That was when Jumbles were brilliant and before car boots arrived.

  16. I treated myself to an apple corer in Sainsburys, it came with 2 other cutters, half price too which was a bargain. I use mine a lot when eating an apple with my lunch. Hope yours proves to be useful.

  17. I know just how you feel! I so miss my flea markets and church ''white elephant'' sales. Here the indoor sales don't start til late March, outdoor April or May. I miss the fun and the ''getting out''.

  18. I love rummage sales. Most are held in the spring and fall but there is a nearby mobile home (caravan) park that holds its sale in February. This year it’s Feb. 1. I can’t wait!

  19. I gave away my apple slicer and now I could really use it. Must look for one at the next rummage sale I go to.

    God bless.
