Using It Up

It was way back in October 2018 that I first thought about downsizing the card- making stash. I wrote....................
Owning all the card making stuff that I have means that if I see nice cards somewhere and buy them (like the ones  from the art exhibition)   I then feel guilty because I know about the bits and bobs sitting on the shelves at home.............I also don't want to shift everything yet again when it comes to the time to move house.

I made a few cards in January last year and some more for Easter and then a few more at Christmas, and cleared  lots of equipment out -  some at the two car boot sales and a few bits to The Big C charity shop in Diss where they run craft courses and have lots of crafting items for sale.

After all that I still have some 3D decoupage sheets left so got busy again and every female friend and family member this year will get  a vase of flowers card. All I need to do is add a"Happy Birthday" sticker/topper  and  "sister/sister in law/daughter/DiL" peel off  at the time.

I've not got rid of everything as I kept lots of card blanks, a few paper punches and rubber stamps, some papers, decoupage sheets, toppers, stickers, peel-off labels and other  things which might come in handy for grandchildren later.

This means that if I see a lovely card at an art exhibition which seems just right for someone I'll be able to buy it - supporting local artists- without feeling guilty that I have tons at home yet still I've enough bits and bobs to rattle up a card or two if need be.

And scaling down meant a whole chest of drawers was emptied and passed on to Son and DiL who needed something for Willow's Big Girl bedroom.

Back Tomorrow

    1. The problem is that I think they are so easy to make that's it's like cheating!

  2. Makes sense to me being the busy lady you are. I too make cards, but have never come across peel-off labels for husband/daughter/sister/brother, etc. Where did you get them from? I try and make use of cards that are sent to us by cutting out anything which may be of use.

Love the cards you made, making use of your card supplies, (hate the word 'stash').

  4. Your cards a pretty.
I have been thinking of getting a lot of my card making things. Before I moved I was imvolved with a hospice and made cards for them in a big way and enjoyed doing it, went to card making class and ran sessions as well. I must have a good clean up and think I will sort out a lot of magazines today for we have a jumble sale tomorrow and they could be of us. Thanks so much Sue for your post today.

  5. My card stock is much smaller, and much easier to see what I have, I do make less as card sending, mainly at Christmas is in decline.

    1. I like using Cancer charity shop cards at Christmas - so just do a few home made for family

  7. I love this die cut decoupage, I have also made a number of them for the females in the family and freinds. It is such a shame Craft Creations sold to another company as you now have to buy 6 of each design, they also don't have the choice of peel offs they used to, plus their prices are not as good. I have to stop buying dies which is my latest favourite method of card making as I have STABLE = "STash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy." as Angela would say. Helen S. (sorry that was me above, didn't put my name, sorry).

    1. I agree about Craft Creations, I used to have their magazine and enter the competitions, their prices were reasonable too.
I think my remaining stash might come in handy for crafting with Grandchildren,

    2. Helen - I go to a craft'n'coffee group each month, and people regularly bring unwanted dies to swap. I have gained a couple of good ones there [BUT I was very strong this month, and stuck to my 2020 resolution not to add to the stash!]

  9. I rarely buy cards now. Have all the equipment to make them. I find it a nice hobby and have introduced friends here to it. My demonstrator from whom I purchase supplies now has a class here every month. I use Stampin Up.

  10. I just got rid of all my card making supplies in one fell swoop to a lady at one of the many car boot sales we did before moving to Wales. It was actually very liberating to have the two huge plastic storage boxes completely gone. But living so close to Llandudno where there is a HUGE cut price crafting supplies shop means I do get the odd pang to start again. I'm fighting it though :-)

Your flower cards are gorgeous, the ladies in the family will be thrilled to receive them.

    1. They look a bit better than the photo as I added a glittery peel off border down the right.
I hope the remaining stuff will come in handy with 2 granddaughters in Suffolk - maybe here in the school hols sometimes

  12. There is always something special about home made cards, especially when they are so skilfully made. Mrs D used to make them using quilling. I had a go myself but used to get the glue everywhere it shouldn't be.

    1. Ha! yes I've tried quilling - either everything unrolled or got stuck to my fingers!

  13. I have decided that I must repurpose the postcards I have bought at art galleries over the years, and make them into greetings cards. And maybe just cut my stash of cardmaking supplies in half...
