Lunch In a Tipi But Out of a Box

I came across the details of this years Suffolk Craft Society Summer Show

and as I happened to be over by the coast visiting Youngest Daughter and Eldest Granddaughter on Friday I decided to go and look on the opening day because otherwise I'd probably forget. (This was one of the few things I used to visit Aldeburgh for in the summer, as only tourists and second home owners go in summer - the locals stay well away!) This year the early weeks of the craft show are at Snape Maltings.  before it moves to Woodbridge  in July.

Photos on my phone no longer come out well (or at all) but this is a general view. There seemed to be fewer exhibits than some years.

Two artists appealed, couldn't afford their originals (prices in the £100s) so just a couple of cards purchased. On the left is a reproduction of a lino print by Helen Maxwell and the right a copy of a water colour by Jennie Nutbeem who is usually a textile artist.

I might find a little frame for the Orwell Bridge print because of it's links to Colin..........when the bridge was first built it was under the care of Suffolk County Council Bridge Section and Col had to go down inside the bridge a couple of times which involved lifting a heavy metal cover and climbing down a steep ladder. The whole SCC Bridge Section were very glad when the road and  bridge opened properly and  the job of looking after it transferred to the National Highways Agency, now called Highways England, who look after the Motorways and main A roads like the A14.

Snape Maltings have now got more places to eat - including a tipi....... so I treated myself to a vegetarian sausage roll (very tasty) with salad which came in a box (like a KFC only posher!) and a locally produced apple juice.

After lunch I took some photos of the iconic view of the maltings and reed-beds but couldn't get them to transfer off the phone and that's not the only reason I may need a new phone soon. Must remember to take my proper camera everywhere this year even if it is a bit big for lugging about.

It was a real treat to be able to get back to the normality of a visit to an exhibition and  lunch out. Hopefully by this time next year even  smaller, local events will be up and running and maybe without a mask..............Fingers crossed.

Today is my 75 minute appointment at the dentist and it's also going to be jolly hot so I'm looking forward to it even less.

See you on the other side!

Sue

  2. Oh no, I do feel for you! My appointment was put off till July - the further away, the better, as far as I'm concerned! (although it won't do my teeth much good).

  3. The Suffolk craft show looked interesting and the photos will be a good memory.
I do hope the dentist is not to painful.

  5. I do like the watercolour card. Have you heard of Just A Card? It's a campaign to support local artists and craftspeople. If you buy just a card from them, you're encouraging their livelihood, survival, and prosperity. Lunch does look tasty!

    1. I'm always happy when artists have printed some greetings cards to buy as It's a way I can do a little to keep them going

  6. Oh gosh, good luck at the dentist and hope it goes well for you and isn't too unpleasant.

The Suffolk craft show looks interesting (though prices beyond my pocket too). Friends of ours used to regularly do an Antiques Fair at Snape Maltings, but now they are retired and suffering from ill health so we don't meet up with them any more. They used to do the Antiques Fair at the Orangery at Margam Park. Miss them.

Like your pieces of art work - rather Col than me when he used to climb down inside that bridge!

    1. Stonham barns - where I go to boot sales are about to start a monthly antiques fair on the showground. Hope it takes off as it would be good to have one close

    1. Having the impressions taken for the crown was the worst bit but at least the next 3 appointments will be shorter

  11. After a long closure, thankfully, local craft exhibits/fairs seem to be opening everywhere. Viewing local talent on display is always enjoyable. Your cards are beautifully crafted and the box lunch looks quite good. Hopefully the dentist appointment will be quick and easy. As for the cost - think hefty.

    1. Slowly getting back to normal although many things I would have gone to are already cancelled.
      Yes very expensive dentistry nowadays

  12. I really like those cards you bought at the exhibit. How nice to spend your day with "normal" adventures again!

  13. I think buying cards is a wonderful way to buy art you could not otherwise afford! I have framed some cards I bought at the Avocet Gallery in Rye Harbour. Wonderful place! And isn't it great to do normal, everyday things again. We especially enjoy going to a local cafe for coffee, lunch and reading the papers!

    1. I'm glad that lots of artists do cards to sell to those of us that can't afford their original work.
Hopefully more art exhibitions will be up and running next year.

  14. Nice cards you bought. I remember that bridge. I like buying cards as well. Some I keep and some I send to friends. I hope you get photo issues fixed soon. No fun for sure. Have a good week!!

    1. The Bridge Office staff renamed the Orwell bridge the 'Awful Bridge'! no one enjoyed inspecting all the inside joints etc.
My phone is beginning to have problems - it was a cheapy so I probably need to update and modernise

  15. What a nice Friday out! It's wonderful to see family and then to also go to a craft show. I like the cards you purchased. You could easily frame them as art and add to your art wall. Good luck at the dentist. I hope it's not too bad of an appointment. I had to go last week and found out I have to have a crown replaced. Those things are expensive! Enjoy your week and I hope your mouth is not too sore.

    1. I do hope things that have had to be cancelled for the last two summers will happen again next year as many are fund-raisers for various organisations who must be missing the money

  17. I always try and buy a card to support the artists -love the one on the right and what a good idea to have the lunch in a box so much better than those floppy paper plates you often get at these events.
