The Second Saturday in June

If you don't like any sports then you'd best avoid TV for the next few weeks. French Open tennis is just finishing (and if you love tennis you'll have enjoyed last nights semi-final which was amazing.)
The Euro football tournament is on for several weeks, lots more tennis from Queens Club and Wimbedon, Tour de France cycling and then one-year-late Olympics. If you don't like any sports you'd best hibernate!
I won't be hibernating - love it all (although I shan't watch Every football match and probably won't be filling in the wall chart that so helpfully came on the cover of the Radio Times 😄).

Flowers on the table this week have been a bunch of bought Stocks (or are they antirrhinums)   and some young growth from the Viburnum in the garden .

I nearly didn't go swimming this week as it was such a lovely sunny day, too nice to go anywhere in a hot car but didn't like to waste my £2.25 booking (tight!) so drove over and it turned out that other people had decided not to swim too so I was the only person in half the pool - what a treat.

Oh BTW I've finished reading the memoir by Josie George - A Still Life. I enjoyed it even though it's about her struggle with the pain of an unexplained chronic illness that started when she was young. She writes so well about all the small things that perhaps those of us who move quickly and further than she can don't always notice.

This weekend there's an Open Gardens event in the village where I was in a holiday let  that I hope to visit, also  the Farmers Market in another village that I visited just once a couple of years ago has started up again so I may go and look at that too plus the Sunday car-boot sale of course.

Hope you have a good weekend.

Back Monday
Sue

  1. Looks like you have a nice few weeks ahead, I am not a very big sports fan but all the men in my family enjoy it and play some sport.
The weather looks like it's going to be a good weekend, since I was 28 I have had hay fever some days are worse than others but at least I know what it is so stay indoors.
Enjoy what ever you do this weekend Sue.

    1. I've always enjoyed watching most sports but couldn't do any of them - even when I was much much younger!

  2. Love stocks, they smell delicious. I'm not a sports fan, other than tennis, and then really only Wimbledon. Just had to suffer a week of cricket, which husband loves. Thank goodness he's not into football!

    1. I had another look at my flowers and think they might not be stocks after all, sometimes I'm so dim!

  3. Looking forward very much to Wimbledon, and some bits of the Olympics but not the football. Let's hope they can all be conducted safely.

    1. The Olympics will be so odd with no spectators if thats what they decide on

  4. I don't mind football on in the background and watched one half last night. I enjoyed the Italian national anthem; it had more passion about it than the football. I can't get my head around the reduced crowds and the enhanced noise. The two don't seem to go together and upset my senses. Thanks for the feedback on the book. I don't think I will read it but good to get your view.

    1. Football is probably bottom of my list of sports to watch, luckily there will be tennis instead a lot of the time

  5. I'm exhausted after last night's semi final. Great match but the wrong result for me as a life-long Rafa fan. Hopefully we are in for a similarly fantastic final, although I do know that quite often it doesn't work that way. Then roll on Queens Club and Wimbledon, it's not properly summer until they happen.

    1. Wrong result for me too as I'm really not keen on Novak - dating back to when he always seemed to be injured and then wasn't. I too doubt the final will be as good

  6. I don't watch much sports except for Formula One racing and I only watch that because 2 of my sons watch it on my TV every other Sunday morning!
It has been so hot and humid here that I haven't been in the mood to go anywhere. Hopefully, that will let up a bit this week. I have some serious weeding to do!

  8. I watch the Olympic Games as often as possible in summer and winter - and I like to watch winter sports like skiing, biathlon and figure skating, ice dancing and especially pair skating.
Your flowers are beautiful; I buy myself every now and then - that means more often :-) flowers for the vase :-)))
I've discovered your recipes and will definitely try a few things. Now I've tried a cake in the oven with these ingredients ... without sugar but with a lot of dates, almond flour, oat bran and walnuts ... I'm curious ... it smells heavenly :-)
Many greetings and thanks for the recipes ... i am looking forward to cooking.

  10. Your flowers are beautiful! How fortunate it was to have most of the pool to yourself and hopefully it made the trip out well worth it. I'm not a big sports person but I do enjoy the cycling and the Olympics. I know the Olympics won't be quite the same but hopefully it is leading us in the right direction. Enjoy your weekend!

  11. Mmmm I can smell those gorgeous stocks on the other side of the world! Reminds me of my old aunty's garden when I was a child.we used to pinch them open like they were talking, not many toys and simple pleasures. I love watching tennis but it's on in the middle of the night here and they don't always replay at a convenient time but the Tour de France have a fantastic coverage each evening at 6pm and as it's dark and cold here we look forward to it. Loving the new garden pictures. Have a great week
