The Two Eldest Grandchildren

Oldest Grandson J. was 5 last week and my oldest Granddaughter  F. is 5 in October. They don't get to meet up often as Grandson is down in Surrey.
On Sunday Eldest Daughter and Grandson came up to stay for a few days. Youngest daughter came over on Tuesday with Granddaughter so there was lots of giggling and being as silly as two 5 year olds can be. I zoomed out first thing for a hosepipe and a cheap paddling pool as the forecast was hot and it didn't take long for them to be dashing in and out.
But later they settled down for some drawing and colouring in the shade.

The lovely thing about living in this village is we could all walk to the playground for some climbing and sliding and get an icecream from the shop on our way home.

And thank goodness for my new dishwasher so I didn't have to spend time washing up after cooking us all lunch - I never ever thought I would have a dishwasher - but have soon seen the benefits!

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. What a sweet picture! Isn't it nice to get together with family again? I must confess that after years w/o a dishwasher, now that I have one I can't imagine not having one again.

  2. Our grandsons Sam and Logan are just 3 months difference in age, but live 100 miles apart, from their toddler stage right through (they are almost 11 years old) they loved playing together, it's a joy to see.

    1. Sister and I had fun with cousins when we were small - luckily they were in the next county so not too far. It's so good to get two bits of the family together. Sadly son and DiL are away on holiday so missed the visit

    1. They grow so quickly. I guess it will be another 15+ years before house buying comes into their conversations. Hope I am still around!

  4. Just lovely. You cant beat the simple enjoyment of a paddling pool in the garden. And I remember colouring for hours when I was a child. Do you remember the Altair Design books? X

    1. They both love colouring and drawing which is good.
I do remember those books but was too old by then for colouring!

  6. Shade was certainly required yesterday wasn't it? They look very contented and I think you will love life in your new place.

  7. Utterly wonderful when families can be together and cousins play together (and the dishwasher does the washing up giving you more time to relax) So pleased for you Sue!

    1. I've only been using the dishwasher for a few days but already enjoying not having to wash up many things.
It was a shame that Son and DiL and the two youngest grandchildren were away so couldn't get them all together - hopefully next time.

  8. What a lovely photo of your grandchildren, it must have been a wonderful day for you all.

It is good to be able to walk to all the places you need isn't it and have facilities right on your doorstep. We are really appreciating that now we are in a small town.

    1. After the years at Clay Cottage in the middle of nowhere it certainly makes a change to be able to walk to get an icecream!

  9. Lovely to see the grandchildren. I had mine for a sleepover Tuesday night and we then had the whole day together yesterday which was lovely. Nanny stupidly agreed we could have a water fight with the many water guns I have accumulated for them - changes of clothes for all! PatC

    1. We didn't put much water in the pool so it would warm up a bit but they still managed to soak everyone!
Water guns are something I've not got yet.

  10. How lovely to have at least some of the family together, and that you can walk to shops etc. No facilities at all within walking distance here - but that's the price we pay for lovely rural life.

  14. This sounds like a perfect family gathering with plenty to do for the 5 year old grandchildren. Having a playground and ice cream shop walking distance from your new home is perfect. I agree entirely, the dishwasher is a marvelous time saving invention.

  15. Yep, a dishwasher is wonderful especially when you have company.

The grands seem to be enjoying their colouring session in the shade.

    God bless.

  17. Fun! We love having our grands out also. They like to feed the barncats, watch the feeder calves, look for the goldfish in the stock tank, climb the big rock by the road and run up and down the hill by the house.
And since they always have to have at least a snack, my dishwasher comes in handy as well.
