A Piece of Moorcroft

It was quite a surprise to find a piece of Moorcroft pottery at the Car Boot sale on Easter Sunday.

A 7 inch tall Planter, Hibiscus pattern and cheap enough for me to buy, much, much less than any bits on ebay and less than my previous big car boot expenses of the 12 plates and the plant stand. I think it's from the 60's as the more recent pieces using the Hibiscus pattern are a different colour.

I now own one piece of Poole and one piece of Moorcroft - I learned all I know about pottery from watching the Bargain Hunt TV programme!

There's lots more about Moorcroft HERE . I don't like their modern stuff at all - too fussy and far too expensive.

And this is definitely NOT the start of another collection!

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  2. A nice Jardiniere. It's worth money. I would say nineteen sixties or seventies.

    1. Yes must be 60's or early 70's. I shall stick a label on the bottom telling the children not to chuck it out after I go!

    1. I was surprised to find it as there were loads of people at the car boot earlier than me

  8. That's also quite a collection of Persephone Books you have! I've only got 9 so far; 10, but I really didn't like Great Bardfield so I'm passing it on.

    1. Fewer than I once had as I knew there were a couple I would never read so passed them on.
I enjoyed Great Bardfield because I love Eric Ravilious paintings

  9. what a good find - lovely piece. Followed the link and there is a wonderful Blue tit vase in their Spring Catalogue but as you say rather expensive! I can see your collection of Persephone Books :) I love these too! I currently only have two though, of the grey covers. My husband got me one at Christmas and another at Valentine's. Maybe one day I will have a lovely collection like yours <3

    1. Do you get The Persephone Biannual magazine? News of their next books and interesting bits to read. It's taken me many years to find so many and I only have ones I know I'll enjoy and read again

  12. That was a good find. I couldn't help noticing though your run of Persephone books behind the pot and are more envious of them - they are my favourite books and I am sure you will say they are all Car Boot finds!

    1. Some Persephone books have been given me, several found in charity shops over the last 15 years and some from a kind blog reader. I'm only collecting ones I've enjoyed and will read again - some don't appeal at all

  14. Did a car-booter overlook the fact that he had a piece of Moorcroft and more or less give it away? The early bird catches the worm I assume.

    1. He knew what it was and wouldn't have got more than what I paid for it at a boot sale although he probably could have sold it to an antique dealer for more.

  15. I love Moorcroft and actually own 4 pieces including a lovely clock but, as you say, they are very expensive so I doubt that I'll ever have another piece. Unless I find one in a boot sale! lol... well done Sue!

  19. Oh, that's lovely, Sue! I did not know about Moorcroft but I Googled it and it is really beautiful pottery. What a lucky find for you! Will you plant something in it or just keep it on the shelf looking pretty?

    1. It would need to be a houseplant in a small pot and I'm hopeless with houseplants so will just enjoy it empty

  21. I think we have all learned a lot from the antiques programmes. Bargain hunts annoys me a bit - I often watch it over my lunch but they do buy daft things sometimes.

    1. I've been watching it at lunchtime for as long as I can remember and yes they buy strange things that you just know will never make money!

  22. That’s a useful size, and I can imagine it not overwhelming the plant in flower. Sometimes the pot grabs all the attention. I look forward to seeing what you plant in it. A clever buy! Virginia
