The Difficulty.................

 ..................of getting photos of Grandchildren!

One at a time is not too bad but to get all five in one place, sitting still and all in a good mood is just not easy.

When we were all at my home for my birthday mid month I said I'd love a photo of me and all 5 grandchildren - did we get round to it?........No.

I have a photo frame that holds 6 small photos, 4 in portrait and 2 in landscape.  Spaces for each grandchild and one of them all together.
It's handy as I can update each grandchild's photo separately, and when we were together after Christmas at the holiday let where Eldest Daughter and family stayed I actually managed all five together but had a fail on the youngest on his own. So his photo in the frame was way out of date. Eldest Grandson didn't like the one of him I'd taken then so we managed to do both Surrey boys before they went home this time.

That means at the moment all photos are relatively recent.

The way they grow and change it will soon be time to try all over again!

At least I got this photo of everyone except me round the table for  home made curries (I made 3 different ones with chicken nuggets and chips for the fussy).

One Son, Two daughters, One Daughter-in-Law and 5 Gorgeous Grandchildren

Photo albums used to be things that really recorded families and growing children but now photos are taken but rarely kept in an album. In a hundred years time with technology changes  there probably won't be any permanent way for our ancestors to see who they are descended from.....just like before photography was invented.

Thanks for comments yesterday - I'm probably imagining things that are not there - reading too many mystery stories! I certainly won't investigate further.

Back Tomorrow

  1. I take a lot of photos, but not a lot of people photos. When Mum got sick a few years ago, I started taking more of us especially when we went away on holiday. When I got back I'd make her an album with photos, postcards and memories of the holidays. Now that she's gone I'm really glad I made them as they bring back nice memories.

Also, years ago, when my children were little and because we lived so far away from Mum I'd hand make her a calendar each year with photos of my children growing up and the things we had done. Mum loved getting those calendars. When we cleared out her flat after she'd died I found them all - there are about twenty plus of them! It got harder as the years went by and the children got older, but I'd always tell them the photos were for Nana's calendar and they would cooperate!

    1. How lovely that you found all the old calendars - now you have a good record to keep.

  2. I think Photoshop might be the answer to group pix of multiple children! So hard to catch everyone in frame, in focus, not screaming..

    1. The girls like having photos taken - the boys not so much and the 3 year old middle grandson gets cross about photos very quickly!

  3. I’m just in the process of cataloguing nearly 75 years worth of photos of family, mostly taken with film cameras. I’ve got up to 1980 but have thrown so many that mean nothing to me so even less to my offspring. Family were very good when g.children small for photos but nothing now they are teens and pre teen so do make the most of them. I agree, there will not be photo albums in the future, such a shame, the bring back lovely memories. However, there will be few photos of me, the most unphotogenic person ever, they went in the fire! Sandra.

  5. Nice family photo you shared. I have photos from my cell phone in goggle photos. I take pictures that way at times since it's another good camera in my hand. Samsung cell phone. I use a real camera as well. I've found some older family photos as well.

    1. I like my real camera for the best photos and the phone one for unexpected pictures

  6. A lovely photo. I have a "family photo wall" with pictures dating back over a century - and at one end is a frame with three blank spaces which has been waiting for two years for the right grandchildren pictures!

    1. Getting them all together from different parts of the country doesn't make family photos easy

  7. What a lovely happy photo. Indeed, what photos will our descendents have of us as mine are all on line for the last 15 years or so. That said, Gabby had some printed (one of my parents' wedding photos included) for me, so as long as we store them somewhere, hopefully the technology may survive. I have been blown away by two paintings of Keith's g.x3 grandparents which turned up on Ancestry this week (other folks' trees). There will be none of mine, I can guarantee - Ag. Labs, house servants and Lacemakers . . .

  9. Capture your grandchildren while you may - they grow up far too fast.
THREE curries AND chicken nuggets and chips - I bet they all want to come back often!

    1. They grow so quickly - it will be difficult to get them all together as they get older but I'll probably have gone by then!

  10. A lovely happy photo. Meal times is obviously the time to get them all together. I am drowning in photographs, not only mine but my Mums and Aunt M's too. The oldest ones I have are of my 2 x Great-Grandmother on the occasion of the baptism of my Dad and his twin brother. Getting them all in order has been a big job and I lost interest so gave up for a while, but I must get back to finishing them off.

    1. Actually sitting down is a rare thing for the eldest two who are always busy!
I've written on the back of old photos so the family know who they are.

    2. With doing my family history I know who they all are, my problem is the amount of them and putting them in date order.

  12. I sometimes ask my children and grandchildren to send me photos electronically when we haven't had a chance to get together. Then I have something to print out to add to the family photograph shelves!
I agree that many digital photos will be lost in the future.

  14. Photographing everybody at the dinner table is brilliant. You have captured a very nice group photo. Everybody is smiling and enjoying their lovely meal. Your curry sounds delicious.

  15. I agree that photos are now in people's phones instead of in an album but you could ask for a photo booklet to me made. It is likely some family member is stumped for a gift for you and would welcome the idea.

MANY years ago my great aunt said she would like a photo of me and my three siblings. The group set out grumpily the day after Thanksgiving. I was guilty of saying one sibling looked like she had put on clothes that had been on the floor. There were arguments about what route to take to the photographer and more controversy about how we arranged ourselves for the photo. On the way home, I hit another vehicle, driving my sister's car. When I got the proofs, no one was around but me. I got a friend to pick the picture she (an unbiased person, presumably) thought was best of all four. Each sibling subsequently accused me of picking the photo worst of him or her, while clearly I had chosen the one worst of me. My aunt liked it anyway.

  16. That's a really lovely family photo.. I agree that so many photos will be lost in years to come. I had a lot of lovely photos of our new baby Grandson in Australia which our son sent via email 18 years ago. I saved them all on computer, which subsequently crashed, and all were lost. It's heartbreaking because our son and his wife split up when the baby was 18 months and she brought him back to the UK to an unknown destination. We haven't seen or heard from them since....

    1. That's so sad. I would be devastated to lose contact with my grandchildren. Perhaps he will want to find you now he is an adult.
